Dabo's early Clemson days
I have to admit that when Dabo got off to a horrific start against Spurrier, I thought his college coaching career would be ruined. Spurrier was a god of college football and he was making this "aw shucks" gool ol' boy named Dabo a punchline for all his jokes. On the field was just as bad.

Dabo got that turned around quickly and soon drove Spurrier to drinking in press conferences and retiring him. If Dabo is the man to put Spurrier and Saban both out to pasture, that is one hell of an accomplishment.

How so? Seriously didn't realize there was anything between those two.

I mean, Dabo won his division in the ACC in year #2 and beat Spurrier in year #1.

Dabo didn't get off to any kind of horrific start.

So fans shouldn’t give up on coaches with early struggles? This board is ready to fire everyone who loses a game.

Didn't he beat Spurrier in the season he took over, then lose 5 in a row to him? Okay, maybe not horrific, but I wouldn't say optimal.

Spurrier quit after losing to LSU in BR it was that game that was relocated after the SC flood disaster

Losing 5 in a row to South Carolina is a pretty big deal at Clemson. They stuck with him and good for them.

Yeah, but if you remember, South Carolina was a very very good team over those 5 years (finished in the top 10 in 3 of those years). Dabo was going to major bowl games, including BCS games, during that span as well.

It was evident what Dabo was building there in spite of the losses to Spurrier.

Spurrier went 5-2 against Dabo. Lost in 2008, beat him 5 straight and lost in 2014. Even with the success Clemson had in 2011, 2012 and 2013 pre-Watson, most of the Clemson people I know wanted him fired after our backup QB Dylan Thompson beat Clemson at their place in 2012.

That's fair. South Carolina being good was a good bit of why that turnaround was so impressive. He didn't come in and pass Brad Scott, he passed Steve Spurrier. I'm sure Spurrier was phoning it in for a couple of seasons too.

Spurrier used to beat LSU like a drum at UF and he was 3-0 as a player against them.
