None of these would’ve meant a thing until 12 team playoff.

And everyone knows that none of these teams have a prayer's chance of winning the national championship. So how many of these so-called "meaningful" games are simply artificial due to the expanded playoffs and how many of them actually mean something?

I would like to see conference contraction.

Let the leftovers like Washington State & Oregon State coming together in a life raft conference with the other castaways.

Clown take, for every game it has made more meaningful it has removed meaning for another.

Texas Texas AM
UGA GA Tech
Oregon Washington
Michigan Ohio State
Indiana Purdue
Many conference championships etc...

All it has done is water down the games that have meaning. ND/Stanford, BYU/UCF etc... don't move the meter either way.

This is also true. In the 70's and 80's they were special.

I guess that’s more my issue… I’m old enough to remember any bowl game being a big deal.

Just felt like college football was more fun when you were playing for a better bowl, even if you didn’t win a trophy. Then came the over saturation of bowl games, then the BCS Title Game that wasn’t a bowl, then the playoffs…

Still mean nothing. Getting into a diluted CFB means shite. Answer was and also has been the BCS system with a +1
