There's a deadline on LOI's, I believe... but no one has to sign one... you can just enroll in school without ever signing a LOI.

Dash, from UGAsports, broke out the NCAA rule book on this one.
Q: Is a scholarship a binding contract between a student-athlete and a school?
A: No. The scholarship is an agreement between the school and the student-athlete with expectations on both sides, but the agreement is completely separate from transfer regulations. A student-athlete may choose to transfer at any time. With multi-year scholarships now available, schools have the option of offering athletics financial aid for more than one year. Such an agreement requires the school to provide financial aid to the student-athlete in accordance with the terms and conditions of the agreement. However, the agreement does not bind the student-athlete to the institution any more than the current transfer rules ? he or she may transfer during the term of the award.
If a student-athlete signs a National Letter of Intent, he or she cannot transfer during the initial year of competition.

If he's going to transfer it's got to be USC right? I mean they have LA and all we have is shitty little Athens. No chance he comes to UGA.

Maybe he is going to learn from Jarvis and just start out in Athens.

This is a good point since it has been proven that the size of the surrounding city is directly responsible for the quality of life while attending said university.
Athens shittiness costs us again...

Unfortunately you are probably right, because as everybody knows, huge cities are always favored over awesome smaller college towns. Sad but true.

Sounds like Southern California and the city of LA is calling his name.

Find me 1 time where a school didnt give a kid his release.
It happens more times than you think, at least in D2.

Jimbo can't keep coaches or players in Tallahassee. They had a lot of de-commits in the last recruiting class and saw a lot of staff turnover this past winter.
Didn't you just answer your own question?
There was a lot of staff change because they got better jobs. Because the staff left the players left. It happens.

It's less likely to happen when there is media pressure involved. Not much media pressure in D2.

Agreed and that's why it doesn't happen in D1.

“What happened was on Signing Day [was] I wasn’t sure who I wanted to sign with. I had issues with different schools. But when I told my mom I didn’t want to sign with anybody and wait and give it a few days she said I couldn’t do that. She said, ‘FSU is a good school – pick them. It’s close to home.’ I wasn’t agreeing with it. But I felt like I was being disrespectful to her if I didn’t sign. So I made her happy.”
Kid didn't really know where he wanted to go and his mom pushed him to FSU, she should have let him postpone the decision and sign where he wanted to.

I think he also felt pressure to make a decision because he had scheduled his announcement with ESPN. Similar to Cyrus Kouandjio and to a lesser extent Spencer Region

This is another point of pride I have with Richt. Every time a player has asked for a release, Richt has immediately granted it with no restrictions. He just isn't petty about it which I find quite refreshing because contract or no, players definitely get the wrong end of the stick with transfers, especially since coaches can immediately go to a different job in the same conference and a school only has to honor a 1 year scholarship before it can kick a player to the curb easily enough. It just isn't right that akid has to give up 1-2 years if scholarships are only 1 year. Just my two cents.

What's the point of having LOIs if a kid can be released before he even steps on campus? Also, how many contracts do you sign without a breach clause?
That's just the way the world works. He didn't have to sign a LOI. He did, now he should suffer the consequences if he and his family choose that he should head to USC.

Kid didn't really know where he wanted to go
How many kids really know where they want to go on NSD? A ton of kids make a last minute decision the night before or the day of.
The point still stands - if you don't want to be bound by the LOI, don't sign it.

Are you a effing dumbass I just posted his quote that you replied to that in his own words said he didn't know where he wanted to go at that time. If he had been given the time to make that decision he very well may have picked USC but we will never know. One thing we do know is he doesn't want to play for FSU.
