Whitley probably won't respond well to anyone outside of Bama. One of his coaches at Northshore is Thomas Dunson. Arguably (actually not arguably) the worst linebacker in the history of LSU. Was recruited by Dinardo, but played most of his career at LSU under Saban.

quote:

Dunson quit the team in August 2000, he didn't play for Saban at all.

There is more than one connection between Bama and Northshore.
Interview with a Northshore coach from another site:
One key in recruiting is relationships. The relationships the Alabama staff has at North Shore HS in Galena Park, Texas played a key role in the Tide's landing a commitment this week from blue-chip linebacker Zach Whitley.

"Our coaching staff at North Shore has three of us that were at LSU when Coach Saban was there," explains North Shore recruiting coordinator Garrett Cross. "We have a lot of good relationships with Coach Saban, with Coach Scott Cochran, the strength and conditioning coach, and their staff. And we have DeAndrew White, who played at North Shore and is now a receiver at Alabama."

The North Shore staff attends Alabama's coaching clinic every spring. The staff returns in the summer to work at the Nick Saban camp. It was at camp two years ago that the 6-2½, 220-pound Whitley got his first look at Alabama.

"We took him up there with us the summer before his sophomore year," Cross says. "He loved it. Alabama has been his dream school ever since."

"Zach knows all about Alabama," Cross says. "He knows about their tradition. They win championships. They have a great, disciplined program with Coach Saban there. They develop their players to win and to have a chance to go on to the NFL, and Zach is a guy who will probably be a top NFL draft pick someday. All of those things were also important in his decision."

Cross thinks DeAndrew White's presence at Alabama was also important.

"No doubt it helped having DeAndrew there at Alabama," Cross says. "He gave a lot of credibility to Alabama. It helped Zach, having a guy from North Shore there. He could go to DeAndrew and DeAndrew would tell him the truth, that Alabama is a legit program, that it's everything it appears to be. That definitely helped Zach feel comfortable and confident."

Whitley narrowed his choices down to Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas and Texas A&M.

"Alabama was the leader all along," Cross says. "At first he kind of wanted to wait to commit. But we talked to him about getting it out of the way. He knows where he wants to go, so we felt it would relieve a whole lot of pressure from him if he went ahead and decided now, if that's truly what he wanted to do. That's what he wanted to do, so he told Coach Saban on Wednesday that he was ready to commit."

As a junior, Whitley earned 5A All-State honors by making 121 tackles, including 11 tackles for losses and two sacks. He forced two fumbles and had one interception.

"When he went to camp at Alabama, they compared him to C.J. Mosley. Zach is very similar in size, speed and athletic ability to C.J. And I think he saw that and felt that he would fit very well into what Alabama does on defense. I think Zach could see himself fitting into the C.J. Mosley role one day. He's got the same kind of speed. He's a legit 4.5 every time."

Holy crap,Northshore High School has a recruiting coordinator.

wtf is a high school recruiting coordinator?

quote:

Man, they don't walk on water. They were about as lucky as anyone ever these last two years to even make the game. They stumbled in backwards two years in a row. Two years ago they didn't even win the conference. I'm still trying to figure that one out.

quote:

There are some major flaws in their thinking. First, we have an extra scrub to beat up on before that game. Sure, they have a bye week (in week 2? Wtf, right?), but early in the season the "practice" games are much more beneficial in terms of working the kinks out than a bye week is. It's too early in the season for them to be that confident.

Also, what is Nick Saban's record against Sumlin? What is his record at Kyle Field? We're not talking about a coach who beat Saban in Tuscaloosa with superior talent like Chizik or Miles have ever done. Sumlin beat him with a sound game plan and INFERIOR talent. McCryin didn't have an INT all season before they played us and we almost had, what? Three? The one Everett had on the sideline should have been counted, IMO. What I'm saying is, that was no lucky win. LSU winning 9-6 at Bama is a lucky win. Bama remembered to bring their offense to the MNC and destroyed LSU. And Miles is a moron, so Saban had that going for him. What I'm saying is, Sumlin is not going to let Saban waltz into Kyle and smack is around. He is going to have a plan and I would bank on it that he's already putting it together with his staff. And Kyle Field will be on fire for that game. The hostility level will rival their games in Baton Rouge.

I hope they do come in confident. I hope they do put all their hope in Saban's rematch record. It's not magic. I am going to love it when they go home crying and trying to figure out just how that happened. I mean, THAT KIND OF THING NEVER HAPPENS TO SABAN!! Right?

They don't realize what kind of Crimson clobbering Saban puts on the 1st SEC opponent and not only that, it is a revenge game (never good, 21 - 0, etc) with Bama coming off a bye week

Bama is gonna tear A&M a NEW ONE and they all think they'll hang 50

He came for Aday and likes Bama recruiting him at Jack, but I don't think he ends up flipping I think he stays with LSU if I had to guess at this point

New aggie thread on the same 247 board....titled....

quote:

Will Sumlin Run Up the Score On Bama?

quote:

I say yes

first off he & Nick aren't warm fuzzies so there's nothing there.

this year when we get up three scores it's going to snowball, badly for Bama.

I'm expecting something very similar to our Auburn game last year. As in I'll be in relaxation mode by late second quarter.

this year will just be a longer continuation of the first quarter in Tuscaloosa last year.

asked if this is a joke:

quote:

no, not at all, it'll be like 50/60+ to 10-

Death Valley is the one I'm really concerned with actually

^he got one thing right

quote:

If there is a team in the country that could.... It's A&M. It could've gotten ugly last year. Guess we will see. We will score points... It's up to our DLine and ILBs

quote:

our D will play lights out with as amped as the 12th Man & the excitement of the stage of the game, we will most definitely affect this one in a variety of ways.

our O will jump on top & not let up this time, this one will be a blowout & the talk of CFB. I will be downing Kettle Corn in a relaxed postion & checking other scores on my phone by the third quarter.

Like I said, LSU's the one we really need to be discussing.

they are our rival, in Death Valley, probably at night, probably another Gameday, really fast athletes on D, I hate that scenario.

Bama.... pfft /wanking motion

Johnny Football can be certain of one thing--he'll get hit early and often. What he can't be certain of is from which direction the blows will be coming. Revenge is a thing best savored over time. Nobody better at it in D1 than Saban. TIFWIW

if these were LSU's front 7 athletes I might put some merit in this

but not Bama's slow fat asses

JM was one inch away from getting another 1st down & extending the lead to 27/28 - 0 mid second & ultimately running your asses out of your own stadium

luckily one of your slow LB's was able to get a finger on him & tap him out of bounds

Malcome Kennedy also says "hello" about not scoring after the first

A&M outscored Bama 20-14 in the first half & Bama 10-9 in the
second half. The only reason it wasn't 10-10 or 13-10 A&M in the
second half was because our kicker stunk. Yea, sounds like we got "lucky" we caught you "sleeping" in the first quarter mouth breather.

Bama's a nice little matchup for A&M but LSU is the real test.

Matthews will get tested early and often at his new LT position by Adrian Hubbard (breakout player on Bama's D and if he does he's a top 15 draft pick, had better numbers last year than Dion Jordan or Ziggy Ansah, more versed in hybrid fronts AND same build/ht)

This BS is fricken HILLARIOUS they expect to beat Bama like they did AUBURN WTF??

Lol it's really not gonna be pretty for them

They do realize I hope that Bama was coming off their toughest and most physical game last year, a rivalry victory and Sumlin knew this so he scored all he could get his team to muster in the 1st half and he knew to strike early and often, then after the D settled in the 2nd half it kept them in check for the most part

A DAMN OFFSIDE PENALTY on a punt realistically could've cost Bama the game AND BAMA STILL almost beat them

This yr is a much different situation

This. I'm expecting a massacre. Honestly wouldn't be surprised if aggy puts up a single digit score in that game. Bama will have only had all offseason to gameplan for them.

no need to seek revenge when home losses don't matter

also

Taylor Hamm, the aggie 247 douche writer is really pissing off the locals in a "we hate northshore coaches" thread. He brags about being such a badass reporter:

quote:

I know Coach Cross very well. A good source for me at NS. He was obviously up front with from the beginning since I was very confident about Bama's chances after Zach returned from Tuscaloosa. Trust me, Bama wasn't the leader the entire time. That's a coach taking pressure off his player in a interview. I was all over this recruitment as things turned. No one else even came close. I destroyed everyone once again reporting the news objectively

quote:

No offense, but you sound ridiculous when you stay stuff like this, especially in an instance like this where you apparently were just as uninformed as the rest of the A&M services regarding Whitley. All of them reported that Bama took the lead after his trip.

What exactly did you "destroy" here Hamm?

quote:

/wank

Good for you. You destroyed everyone in regards to a recruit we didn't get.

Believe it or not, this recruiting deal doesn't revolve around the information you provide. If we get no recruits to commit to us, nobody gives a shite about how accurate your info is.

quote:

Also, I'm surprised we didn't get a "I was just about to post this." remark.

quote:

Taylor, I really think you should always have someone read what you're typing outloud to you before hit the post button. We know you are good at what you do, we don't need to constantly be reminded. It's mostly intelligent people on here (I mean come one, we're rooting for the Ags), let the info you provide speak for itself, we'll figure it out. Because when you speak for the info, you just sound like a pompous little a-hole. We know you're not, but that's how you come off.

quote:

I do think that when reading something like the pulse that with each piece of info it's followed with a blurb about how gigem was first with the info or some other shot at the other sites comes off as unprofessional. I'm sure Taylor will get pissed reading this, but just trying to give some constructive criticism.

LOL what a tool. That board must be.

Apparently Taylor Hamm just started to "destroy reporting", because he seems to be surprised that a top flight linebacker committed to Bama? Come on man. Texas A&M has put out very few professional LB's (I can only think of Von Miller) in the last 10 years. It's not like A&M is on par with the Bama program in the slightest. All anyone can do is ho-hum at aggy speak like this until they either: A) prove they are what they think they are, or B) get their asses beat and shut up.
