And who is he really to question a coach that has now won four national titles in the last decade? I'm not a Bama fan in any regard, but when you have a track record like Saban does, it kind of gives him a LOT more credence over some drunken writer

the sign 20+ guys a year... this may come as a shock to some of you, but some of their signees do end up not contributing.

Effort is something that can be improved... skill and athleticism for the most part can't... Saban will either improve his effort/desire, or he'll be replaced by someone with equal talent who does play hard.

Go watch some of these elite athletes in high school. I've seen a number of players that I question their effort but I think it's more that they just get bored because the game is so easy for them at that level. They are much bigger, stronger and faster than the normal high school kid playing sports. Then they get to the next level and they are playing at a different level.

Now yeah, some carry that laziness onto college because they can't get away from it, but most realize everyone they are going up against at that level is just as talented as they are.

Really? I didn't read the article, only the quoted material from the OP, but nothing he said is rude or malicious.
People want the world to be so damn PC these days.

No problem with the article. If you want to be great you're going to need to toughen up and deal with criticism.

Not defensive at all. I think it's Bush to shite on a HS kid because he goes OOS. I don't give a damn what school the kid goes to. It's one thing for message board nerds to talk shite but for "legitimate" media to do so is BS. If you think that's defensive that's your problem.

From the aritcle:

Obviously, college scouts are seeing the same thing I saw that night, yet a recruiting war continued for this particular player right up until Signing Day

Maybe they saw things a little differently

Really bush league article. Calling out a kid is ridiculous, calling one out who lives in your circulation area and not having to pay the price b/c he signed out of state - that's cowardly.

He could have made that exact point without making it so obvious. You don't throw 18 year old kids under the bus like that. It's irresponsible.

I listen to Randy Galloway sometimes and my unbiased opinion of him is that he's a loud-mouthed, redneck hillbilly who happens to be an exponentially dumber hybrid of Collin Cowherd and Skip Bayless. He's still on the air because of the shock value and ratings. Most people that listen to him, take his analysis with a grain of salt.

First off, Galloway is who he is. A cranky old guy that likes to rattle people's cages and doesn't care what other people think. It's kind of like Finebaum in a way, you can't take him too seriously. Both are just trying to get people to listen and talk about them (which he succeeded in doing here).

That said, he isn't all wrong. Even looking at all the things you posted here if you notice it isn't all about his HS accomplishments but rather what a great prospect he is. The kid clearly has ability but there have been questions about his work ethic. I agree with those that say that isn't uncommon among star athletes but it is noteworthy that he has that rep without being a guy that was "All Everything" in High School. It IS noteworthy that a guy who is rated a 5 Star and one of the best 3 players in Texas didn't make his All District Team.

That said, I think he made a smart choice in going to Bama. If anyone can get the most out of him it is Saban, either he will boom or bust there. Texas OTOH has become a place where highly rated DL prospects seem to fall into oblivion and the reputation for entitlement is rampant. Bama is a harder road for him but it may be the better road, personally I hope for the best for the kid outside of games against A&M.

After watching some film on him (couple of youtube vids) he does look like he could use a little boost. He doesn't look like most legit 5-star prospects do on film with that "awe" factor or like a man against boys. He's not very disruptive, looks like more of an O-line prospect. Has good feet and would probably make a pretty good tackle. JMO based on what I saw. I don't see the best D-lineman recruit in the nation at all though.

I usually like Galloway.

This was a poor decision on his behalf though.

We don't need our DL prospects to be disruptive. What we need is for them to create a stalemate at the line of scrimmage so our linebackers can come up and make plays. If they manage to get in the backfield and make a play....all the more better.
