UGA is much tougher to get in to overall which creates the idea that it's superior academically. The academics once you get there are equal but the academic quality of student going there is higher at UGA.
UGA is tougher to get into simply because there are twice the number of Georgia residents than there are compared to SC residents in terms of state population trying to enroll at their flagship universities. It's simple supply and demand, not any masse perception that UGA is a finer overall academic institution. Vet school? Sure. Speech Therapy? Sure. But USC can go toe-to-toe with anyone in the SEC save maybe Vandy and possibly Florida (and now Mizzou and aTm perhaps), in terms of perceived prestigiousnous (sic) within their various colleges. SC's International School of Business, their Honors' College, etc., are all very highly regarded. And SC is well on its way to achieving the coveted AAU credentials. With the Innovista Research initiative now fully underway, it will not be long, in the overall scheme of things, before SC will be right there with everyone else when it comes to hanging that shingle on our gates as well.

Did I say there wasn't? It's tougher to get in to, plain and simple.
