A&M mods are starting to talk this kid up, but I'm assuming it will be hard to get him. Are you LSU fans hearing anything about this kid?

Holstein named the MaxPreps Louisiana football player of the year! Congrats to the young man!

He transferred away from STM to get out the shadow of Walker Howard, despite his older brother setting records at STM while he was there to the tune of 90 pass TD and 100 total TD his final 2 years there.

Its early since we're talking sophomores here but it may be hard to convince him to come to LSU with Howard coming here.

I'm not convinced he isn't or can't be better than Arch Manning at Newman. Will be interesting to see both their junior years.

Eli is losing his top target Chris Hilton to LSU though at Zachary, so that's a setback for him.

Walker Howard 22'
Eli Holstein 23'
Arch Manning 23'

You won't see a better 2 year group of QB's probably anywhere. With Howard already in at LSU, I just don't see Holstein nor Manning coming to LSU. Those kids are going to want to be the starting QB's their freshman year.

I'm hoping LSU can pull 1 of the 2 out of Manning and Holstein.

Not likely though with Johnson, Nuss and Howard ahead of them though.

I don’t know anything, but a poster who seems close to Eli had this to say:

quote:

Holstein was never at STM with Howard. He played his freshman season at Zachary HS behind a senior qb who went to play football and basketball at Memphis. He moved from Lafayette to Zachary at the end of his eighth grade year. His older brother was at STM and he was the reason Howard didn't see the field for two years, and this kid is better than his brother was at that age! So he didn't lose a competition and transfer, I promise you he isn't afraid of competition.

Eli had a 38" vertical and runs a 4.65 40 by the way

They "moved" so he could play and not wait behind Walker Howard, bottom line. It wasn't any secret Walker Howard was the next big QB in LA and the Holstein's knew that too. Howard was getting offers his freshman year of high school without playing a varsity snap. They saw the writing on the wall there for Eli.

Caleb Holstein was the older brother and he was a record setter at STM and was 2 classes ahead of Howard. By the time Howard entered his freshman year Caleb was a returning starter at STM as a junior and getting college offers, they werent going to start Howard over his older brother.

Caleb then put up 100 total TD the first 2 years Walker Howard was at STM with him, yet Walker Howard was the one getting the big offers - LSU, aTm, Bama, etc...as a freshman/sophomore. So again, Caleb was doing a great job and they were trying to get him some more pub, although no big offers came in for Caleb (got several ivy league offers and some d1 offers too), he had a big time high school career at STM.

In the end they definitely got Eli into an earlier playing time opportunity than if they had stayed at STM. Zachary had Chris Hilton who was a near 5-star receiver for Eli to work with his first season starting as a sophomore there too.

Personally I think Eli is way better than his older brother Caleb, gets a lot of exposure playing 7 on 7 as well. He could be even better than Arch but only time will tell there. There's little doubt they moved to get Eli more playing time sooner than at STM though, he wouldnt have started until his senior year at STM.

This. And it's been a great decision thus far, as both Zachary and STM have elite programs.

Scott Holstein was a punter and team captain at LSU and Mrs. Holstein is also an alum.

I would love to have one of Holstein or Manning, but also realize they both might have better opportunities elsewhere.

Just the nature of the QB business.

The Farmer from Spring, TX is trolling on the recruiting board?

Imagine that.

How is it trolling if I say he’s visiting?

If you say so. I have no idea. When did you last speak with the family?

Dont really care what someone "connected to the family" has to say. Of course they will damage control and say they moved and changed schools for any other reason than deal with the fact Eli would have to wait till his senior year to play at STM due to Walker Howard. No crap they wouldnt admit that, but it's absolutely the reason they chose Zachary instead of STM for Eli as everyone knew he wasn't beating out Walker Howard so he would have to wait a long time to start. It's a good move, not arguing it isnt. But anyone trying to act like Eli having to sit for 3 years at STM had he stayed there had no bearing on the decision is pretty laughable. His older brother set records there and the Holstein's were well known around there.

Not a secret why he changed schools. And it's not a knock on him or anything, just like it wasn't for Walker Howard having to sit behind Eli's older brother for 2 years before starting at STM. Imagine having that kind of QB talent at 1 high school with only 4 total years separating them all:

Caleb Holstein - 2020
Walker Howard - 2022
Eli Holstein - 2023

I mean, maybe. But people move for lots of reasons.

I'm not saying it was the only reason they moved, but it was certainly a pretty big reason to get Eli playing well before his senior year.

Why are you even arguing against this? It happens all the time in high school sports.

To be a successful Qb football has to become a business at a very early age. Early PT is extremely important.
