DB Darin Smalls of Summerville, SC committed to South Carolina today on an unofficial visit to Columbia. Smalls (5-11, 200) was originally planning on signing on NSD, but he has been a solid USC lean for quite a while, and with USC only taking 3 DBs in this small class and with Wesley Green committing ahead of time as well as several other top-rated DBs looking at the Gamecocks, he chose to make the call this weekend.

Smalls is rated an 89-grade 3* (90 grade is 4*) by 24/7 Sports, and a 5.7 3* (5.8 is a 4*) by Rivals. He is expected to bump up to 4* by both services soon. Smalls has offers from Arkansas, Clemson, GT, UK, FSU, Louisville, NC St., VT, Oklahoma, UT, Vandy, among others. He is the 7th commitment for the '14 class, which is expected to take around 15-17 total commitments...

So if he moves to a 4-star does that mean it was a Bama bump?

This is a good pickup, I keep reading that he's also a track athlete and runs with the HS's relay team of the 4x100. I read on 247 that at the last meet in Summerville he ran a 4.41 in the 40, however, since when do they run 40's at track meets?

Still, the highlight reels and his registered legit track times show that he can run fast. Go Gamecocks!

Yes, but gnarkill, as the Bama rep on this thread, has to get 12 up votes in order for all of this to work.

Where are the ones who were talking shite about us not being in the top 50 now? We're moving up and moving fast. Shaq Davidson should be next to fall!

One thing I've learned from watching Bama recruiting is that you go after kids with necks as big as their head on defense. You sign enough of them, a whole defensive class of them, work them out and see who is the smartest and hardest working of them, and let the rest process themselves, you will field a very good football team.

Great pickup on that kid, for that position. What's his 40? (ETA- 4.41 track 40... consider making this kid a running back?) Any academic issues?

None, from what we hear it's more the opposite. He's just a solid all-around kid.

We've got RBs out the yin yang. We're definitely recruiting him as a DB. Corner if possible, safety otherwise.

We really need him as a CB, but I read he could play Safety as well. It will probably depend on who else we bring in this class and who is still on the team next season though.

We are building some depth at CB...both Hampton (early departure to NFL) and Legree (graduation) are expected gone for 2014, but we also have Martin, Christian, and McWilliams as well as incoming Groves from the '13 class. FS Elder can also play some corner in limited scenarios. So while we have enough for a full 2-deep, that's still fairly thin.

We were looking at bringing in 3 DBs in this class with 2 of them being corners. As CIYE states above Smalls looks to be the one safety, and we already have Green committed for one of the CB slots.

As I read it, it's a first-come, first-serve to who ever commits first out of Al Harris, Jr., D.J. Smith, Quincy Wilson, and Chris Lammons. Also Humphrey of course, since he has us in his final list, although that one is a stretch. Recent talk has Harris Jr. looking to make the first move...

Prob gonna be Harris.

We'd oversign for Humphrey, obviously.

I realize having to engage USC fans in rivalry shite talk is a fairly new thing for you guys but that's no excuse: you gotta get some better material.

Go play footsies with Clemson. USCjr is a mere blip on the radar the past 3 years. Don't worry, you will return to the cellar soon enough. Then you won't have to worry about missing out on the SEC Championship game.

lul, these dawgs have been getting pretty pissy since USC whooped UGA's arse this year 35-0. Since it's the recruiting forum...Did y'all know that ug has had a higher ranked class every year for the past almost 4 years? It's the truth, but did y'all know they haven't beaten us either?

Now ain't that peach?!?! (Side note, SC produces more peaches as well, we just let 'em keep the name b/c their team, and schedule are soft, like peaches.)
