"Last fall, Tennessee beat No. 3 Alabama, earned the No. 1 ranking for a fleeting moment, lost a close game to eventual national champion Georgia and came within a whisper of making the College Football Playoff for the first time."

Odd thing to redpill you on behalf of the media but ok

Revisionist history. ESPN has bet so much on SEC football, they desperately need to pretend other teams besides Georgia have a chance. Ratings starting to slide already.

One thing I've learned never decide the SEC before the season is played.
1976 UK comes out of nowhere
1980 UGA comes out of nowhere after a 6-5 season
1984 Florida comes out of nowhere
1986 LSU comes out of nowhere
1990 Florida comes out of nowhere
1991 Bama comes out of nowhere
1999 Bama comes out of nowhere
2000 Auburn comes out of nowhere

Why exactly did you find this newsworthy?
Bama was 5 and Tennessee was 6 in the last CFP rankings prior to selection day.
Both would easily be in the expanded CFP in 2024.
Yes, we have one more bridge season to get there but yeah, Tennessee is on the cusp of making the CFP and will likely get there if Heupel stays. Just a matter of when, not if.
Might be coaching Oklahoma down the road though.

The days of parity are over. It’s not who will win. It’s by how much UGA decides to embarrass teams by. Hate to say it, but this decade has the marks of the Bear’s 1970’s level dominance.

First Bama and now Georgia, it’s so predictable now that when the regular season is over most folks tune out. Same old story every year……yawn…

Close game? Heather is right - you can’t trust the sports media. She is media and she was lying if she said this game was close. I was at that game. Georgia dominated UT. They had a comfortable lead and then the rain came. You know the rain that got UT so afraid that they might melt. That and the grass in Sanford Stadium. It’s TOO long! Well, Boo hoo!
Once the rain started Kirby went conservative. Why risk turnovers or injuries when UT was posing no real threat. UT took this slow down as related to some great effort by their team. They managed some garbage time points and suddenly they think they are Georgia’s equal. They didn’t like the rain. Well we didn’t either. If not for that Georgia could have laid another twenty points on them.
I was there. Soaking wet and part of the TOO LOUD crowd UT whines about. I never for one minute though the outcome of that game was in question. I was more nervous about our lackluster performance against Missouri than anything UT was going to do. And against Missouri I wasn’t that worried. More concerned about how long it was going to take before Georgia decided it was time to start taking care of business.

At least Clemson was Bama’s foil. I watched one quarter of the Georgia-Oregon game opening weekend and knew the season was over. Made the Covid year look downright exciting in comparison.

Yeah, it’s basically 3 teams, if that many, and a whipping boy for the playoffs now. But I enjoy the regular season though. I’ll always have football as my number 1 sport.

What an unexpected statement this is after the last couple of decades. I guess times they are a changin'.

Kinda makes me hope we three-peat just to see how many on tRant give up on football.

“Close game” I must have missed that one.

I know, right? But it’s got to be a losing deal when they guarantee billions and folks are turning off championship games before half.

NIL & free agency is leading the decline. The lack of intrigue just exacerbates it. I was a HUGE CFB fan, but follow the NFL much closer these days. It’s gold every week.

There wasn’t anything remotely close about that game.

Think we could get the Aggies to give up on football and leave the conference? We really need to rev it up if that’s possible.
