4 gimmes?

Y'all lost to Colorado State last year (who finished 3-9)

North Texas stomped you by 4 touchdowns.

Arkansas can slap a win next to Portland State. And that's about it. 4 gimmes......

Fat Bert Lovers have been jettisoned from the program. Last year has nothing to do with this year.

North Texas would have beat a couple other SEC teams last year too.

I never base my expectations on preseason reports. Those improvements in the passing game came at the expense of those LBs and Corners you are talking about. It is like those who think the Spring Game is an indicator of the future success of any team.

Not to be a dick but LSU, Bama and Auburn are gonna roll out elite talent in the secondary (not sure about A&M). So unless the OL and run game are solid then it’s a really difficult venture to be slinging the ball around.

State will have elite secondary talent this year too, not to be a dick, either. State's offense won't see much of anything they can't see in practice out of the secondary.

It disturbs me to agree with you, but there's always that inherent hope that the human spirit possesses...

With that out of the way, on paper and based off of fall camp results, our WR situation (including the possibility of having a legit passer) is, possibly & without knowing the future, going to be as good or better than it has been since 2014/2015. Certainly the possiblity of marked improvements to the PG are as good as I've seen in some time.

Now, that doesn't mean that I'm calling for 10+ wins and a possible NCAA title run and that it actually will be better, but it does justify some of the positive feelings from within our fanbase regarding our receiver corps being on the up-and-up: due to years of neglect, that is the only logical place that it could go for a coach who likes to pass.

Our defense won't be a pushover either. Hell, most SEC defenses (certainly not State's) are ever perennial pushovers in any sense of the phrase. And FTR, our secondary along with our running game and OL is nothing to snub your nose at, but again, that's based on preseason INTANGIBLES (e.g. recruiting, stats, maturity, etc.), past results, & preseason practices. What else do we have to fall back on at this point?

We have reason to be optimistic, but just because we are optimistic doesn't mean that a true State fan holds that optimism in a vaccum: Optimistic? Yes. Recklessly, optimistic? No sir- not a true State fan.(Yes, even we have sidewalk fans holding on from the #1 ranking days.) Most of us look at the glass half full this time of year if we know there are potentialities to warrant it, but we damned well know that it's also half empty too. Nobody with a straight face can call the State fanbase in the real world kool-aid drinkers. Problem is, most other fanbases don't realize that for years, other than a glimmer of hope here and there, indications of potentialities that warrant optimism for our passing game have been non-existent.

One thing is for sure: For the coaching staffs- who know the personnel changes & intricacies & probable weapons that their opponents like State possess on offense this year vs. last year- at least early on, their gameplanning for our passing game will be a much bigger priority than it has been. The potential is there. How much potential? TBD, but I can guarantee you that at first, a competent coaching staff will take measures against the percieved improvements that we've made in putting the ball into the air and coming down with it in our possession.

Know that, and you'll know why the OP is right in being optimistic about probable improvements to a part of our offense that nobody has respected or feared for quite some time: If even the possibility exists that we can air the ball out where before it was a non-issue, then we improve our odds at having options to win the game both in the air and on the ground...but also the all-important game within the mind.

Didn't you just come off the best draft in MSU history?

Honestly the secondary won't be in the same realm as LSU, Bama or Auburn this year in the West. A lot of people expect a big step back in the defense overall. Losing talent like Arbams, Sweat, Simmons, Peters is hard for anyone to replace, especially Mississippi State. Secondary is the most impactful variable in terms of defensive efficiency when it comes to returning starters. Losing all of the TFL production is something to watch for as well.

Our secondary is going to be very very good, that’s a promise but unless you really know the roster I could see why you wouldn’t believe that, and I believe our linebacker group will be top 2-3 in the SEC if not the best, question marks but talent at DT with experience and 4star talent 2 deep on the ends. We will have a top 15 defense and it will be up there with the best in the SEC, no doubt. The offense has a lot of question marks and I will have to see improvement to believe it. If the offense breaks out 9 wins is certainly in play, but 7-8 is probably the safe bet.

That's incorrect. Georgia wanted him BADLY, he was on campus a few days before signing day. Yes, he was a late bloomer. He was a 3*. But, he rose ALL YEAR and was a 4* at the end, and you are CRAZY if you think Ole Miss didnt want him as a QB. He visited there like 12 times, too.

Last year State finished #6 in passing defense. LSU was #38, Bama #33, and Auburn #58.

I read the first page. Is this entire thread still just State, Ole Miss, UPig, and A&M arguing about who’s the tallest midget?

Ole Miss offered KJ as an athlete until Longo left. Longo did not think KJ was a good QB prospect. He fit RR’s offense so we offered him at QB. Arky fans are welcome to dispute this if you like but you are wrong.

Self awareness is not LSU’s strong suit, is it?

Yeah he visit ole miss a ton because he lived right down the road lol. Starkville kids come to State all the time but that doesn’t mean they can commit. So you’re saying He has the arm of Mahomes but he was a low 4* and wasn’t invited to a single all star game? Why is that? It’s very common knowledge that both State and Ole Miss passed on him for 4* out of State QBs. He had offers as an athlete but was set on playing Qb so he chose the 1 school that gave him that option.
