WOW- Alabama paper kills Texas and Big 12

One paragraph from story
"Is it bizarre to anyone else other than me that someone would even need to ask it? Like, it all implies that Texas deserves even more special treatment than the school already receives. Longhorn placation has already set the Big 12 back — way back — behind the SEC and Big Ten. Stuff like this makes it so much worse. No wonder Texas A&M bounced when it had the chance to join the SEC."

A first for everything, I actually agree with Joe Goodman. Damn

Weep for Texas. It’s so abused.
Texas was 7-3 last year, and 5-3 in the Big 12, and apparently those losses were a consequence of hand taunts. That’s what we’re left to assume, anyway, if there needs to be a rule for Horns Down.
In all sincerity, do the Longhorns need a safe space, too? Is it OK to boo? Did someone cry in the locker room at halftime?

Do you think Goodman had researched his own conference before calling Texas soft?
The gator chomp has been a weird gesture among fans and players and it has actually gotten both sides in trouble with the refs.
I saw a Tennessee running back get 15 yards for doing the gator chomp vs Florida. It was considered a taunt.
And I also saw a Florida WR get a 15-yard penalty for doing the same gator chomp against an Ole Miss team after a score. That too was considered a taunt.

This is like getting a foot rub and a back massage for AgPostGroup.
Lemme guess.
Sarge will say don’t cry whilst posting pron.
Lobotomy will say 83 pages to go whilst bumping the thread.
Kaiser will admit to fearfully avoiding the horns.
Texag7 will forget again how good he was at the troll.
List goes on. Tired of Texas threads because it attracts flies.

Big difference between flagging a player for taunting and having the conference specifically rule that mimicking one team’s hand-gesture will be penalized.

It’s hard not to read that article and cringe at the devolution and lowering of standards. I agree with the points made, but the writing is atrocious.

Y’all, the Big 12 is so broken. All the teams in the conference know that the league favors Texas, and Horns Down was kinda like a rebuke to that preferential treatment, but now the league is banning it because … why, exactly? It’s funny, and perfectly suited to the spirit of what makes college football great. And, let’s just be real, if everyone was doing Horns Down to Texas, then really that’s just a testament to the power of Texas.

What's the difference? A gator chomp requires a hand gesture. Requires 2 actually. If you do a gator chomp, and the ref sees it, you get a 15 yard penalty.

That stood out to me as well. It's a sign of the times, I'm afraid.
I also feel like the author 100% posts on tRant.

So the SEC comes out in the off-season and says “Any of you make fun of Florida and you’ll be penalized” and you’re cool with that?

That is what the SEC has done. Players that do the gator chomp are making "fun" of their opponent. And when Florida players do it they too are trying to taunt the opponent with this "hand gesture."
The only thing that is fair for Texas opponents is for the Big 12 to stop the longhorn sign on the field, period. If opponents can't do the turned-down gesture, the Texas players shouldn't be allowed to give the upright gesture, even after a score. That's fair.

I mean, AL.com is made of terrible writing. Unbelievable at times.

People forget that this literally almost killed the Big 12. Texas Tech and the Oklahoma schools had their foot our the door for the Pac-12, Nebraska was gone, A&M was gone, Missouri was gone, etc. We joke about certain teams running the SEC but that conference does whatever Texas wants. And the Horns still suck

Every team nationwide should throw the thumbs down in their televised games, regardless of opponent.
This is the type of softness that needs to be ridiculed out of existence.

I couldn't get past it either:
"Is it bizarre to anyone else other than me that someone. . ."
Is the writer just trying to use "cutesy, rootsy" dialect or can they simply not find a less awkward turn of phrase?
It's annoying either way.
