He almost always fields a good defense, which is a huge plus.
His OC at Tech is recognized as an outstanding young coach. I realize his offense at Auburn looked stale at times, but even Tony Franklin appears to me to be a damned-fine OC.
I would guess that his marriage to Auburn was permanently damaged by Jet-gate, and when Saban came in and started to roll, folks started to panic.
He is well-connected in college coaches organizations, so will always be able to put together a good staff.
And his recruiting at Auburn got spotty at the end; I get that. But your higher ranked classes are really helping you. His classes though were good enough to put you in the upper tier of the SEC.
The whole Petrino/Arkansas fiasco has proven how invaluable good coaching is in our beloved conference. Tubs is a very good coach.
I'd take him in a heartbeat at Arkansas. The Gruden talk is crazy, and why in the world would my Arkansas friends take Charley Strong, Dykes, or Holgerson over Tubs? Tubs' resume is far more impressive than any of those folks.

I think he will be the subject of interest from several schools...depends too on his contract buy out clause and all that sort of thing. UT may have strong interest if they lose to Vandy. He knows the SEC inside/out...but at his age is he going to want to work his azz off to rebuild a program? If I were his agent, there would be long term committment from the school with a HUGE buyout if let go before a full four year term to insure that he can recruit his players. Recruiting is the way UT can rise up and join the elite in the SEC...the only way imho. Might be able to bandaid it for a couple of years with JUCOs, but UT has to recruit good players with good attitudes....not so easy to do.

The ceiling at Kentucky (football-wise) is too low. I don't think any semi-name coach is going to take that job.
Petrino, possibly, but I doubt it.
(Sorry, KY fans but that is how I perceive your football program, but at least you have the best basketball program in the country.)

TCU, Baylor, Houston more appealing than Tech.
So an 18 year-old, given the choice, would rather play in Lubbock than Houston or Dallas?
I will however, concede that Lubbock > Waco but with Art Briles, Baylor and Tech are about even without RGIII

According to 247
Tech had the 3rd best class in the Big 12 last year.
3rd best in 2011
5th best in 2010
So yes, it looks like kids want to go to Lubbock over the places you mentioned.

Lubbock...home to Buddy Holly and not much else. You can watch paint dry there for giggles. Just a remote peice of real estate. Texas Tech has a major in Advanced Cow Poke Technology. They teach how to shovel horse manure.

probably not from a city standpoint, but from a football program yes.
