Do y’all think Saban would have he same success if he took over Arkansas, South Carolina or Tennessee? All things considered, recruiting and all.

Good chance. I mean, he won at LSU and then turned a meh Alabama program (at the time) around.

Yes, Coach Saban is relentless in his goals. He fixed a lot of problems at LSU when he was there (not my words, the words of my cousins that are LSU alums, two of which played football for LSU.)

However, he would be able to do it only if the athletic department allows him to do what he think is needed to improve the program. Alabama basically said "Whatever you need to be successful, you will have"

This is the real answer. It takes the perfect storm. A guy like Saban isn't as successful if he has to answer to others and listen to their guidance and opinions. He needs full control. That's not a knock at all, it's just that he knows what he's doing so much better than anyone else that forcing him to capitulate to others is extremely counter productive.

Pre-nfl probably not. Post-nfl he probably would’ve been successful although not to the same degree as Alabama at the non major football powers, but definitely successful

Saban wouldn’t be the coach he is today without leaving for the nfl and deciding to totally dedicate himself completely to the college game after dipping his toe in the nfl pool and deciding it was too cold

Not sure he ever would’ve perfected his machine at LSU if he stayed. He needed that kick in the rear from the nfl to put it in full swing.

I see things the same way as you. NFL stint made him a much better coach. More focused if that was possible. Bama is fortunate.

No. But he could have been close at UT, UGA, AU, LSU and UF. I think if given 15 years, he could have won a national championship at that next tier as well with Arky, both Mississippi schools, TAMU and USCe.

The best ever. God I hate him.

same? no, absolutely not. A lot depends on which schools. Saban said and knew he could have the most success at bama. He knew he would get favoritism at bama from the SEC office. He also knew bc of bama's history he would have media bias.

At UT he could have matched his pretty quick success at bama, and what he did at lsu. I do agree with the poster that the nfl stop helped him dedicate himself 100% to the college game which is good.

May take him longer than wanted at an ark or usc or most other schools as the infrastructure isnt there. Nothing like UT and bama on a national stage pre-Saban (in this scenario). They would "get it". Smaller schools would be nervous, and get in his way more than they wanted. And would need to build quick, but would get money quick too.

Not many schools have exactly what a Saban type (another example...meyer) to step right into and pull it off. Why the SEC Big 6 is more than just play on the field.

agreed, but I'd put aTm in the same tier. Each has recruiting base (UT challenged with limited in state #s and regionally, but has previous success at national recruiting and could reestablish name brand easily enough with the right coach) and $ for facility upgrades and a large saban-style staff-of-staffs.

I really think he could get USCe going as well. He'd certainly become a pain in ask to UGA and Clemson on the recruiting trail.

Hahahaha dude shut up with that nonsense. He’s the best coach of all time. I feel like he might have even more success at LSU than bama considering the recruiting he has right here. Same goes with Georgia. He might have 9 titles right now instead of 5 if he was at one of those.

Least of UTs concerns if even a concern. UT built a great history facing this, and talent is better now than ever in state.

UT perfected national recruiting before it was "easy" like today.

He would not have had the same success at the little 8 as he would at a big 6 type programs. However at MSU we would have been way better. Not bama good but reallly good

If you mean Saban leaving Bama right now to go somewhere he would undeniably make those teams great. Money would pour in from donors to give the school whatever Saban wanted to make the school on the level, because it is a sure bet.

Would Saban have the same success at other schools if he went to them instead of Bama after leaving the NFL. No. He would make them good, probably great, but he wouldn't have made Arkansas or South Carolina Bama great. Tennessee maybe could have been Bama great.

No. He would win anywhere, yes but not 5 nattys in 9 seasons.

He could at maybe USC, Ohio state, Texas maybe or Penn state. He miiiiight could at Michigan but that's it.

Nowhere else in the sec could he win like he wins at Bama.

Adolph Rupp couldn't have won like he did at Kentucky at other sec schools.

Agreed, and UT Athletics would be willing and able to spend the money CNS would want to spend to build his vision, which is why CNS could have likely replicated his UA success there.

He would wreck shop at AtM. With his connections into next door Louisiana plus College Station's willingness to spend money he would have the Aggies rolling.
