Yes Kentucky would have found someone else... Calipari was a two time cheater having left UMass and Memphis on probation. But LSU fans need to be very embarrassed by the WWade phone calls..

People close to the program say that Tom Izzo would have been the coach is Cal turned it down. So we wouldn't have been THE program that we were from 2010-2015 but we would have still been a great team.

I cant see Izzo leaving Mich St. He basically has tenure over there. His job security makes him irreplaceable.

Kentucky basketball is done with Calipari. He recruits ok, on the level of Will Wade, but doesn’t coach well enough in the postseason.
He has the best postseason record of any coach in the nation during his tenure at Kentucky, and by a wide margin.

Youre a fricking idiot.

We talked to Izzo when Tubby left and again after Gillispie.

We were going to hire a name coach after Gillispie. The boosters took the decision out of the ADs hands. It's precisely why we got Coach Cal. Those guys are shakers and movers and werent going to let it slip aftet that 2 yr debacle we got when trying to replace Tubby after his slide.

So yeah...we pretty clearly have a track record of getting our guy and having sustained success.

Coaching matters but having an AD and booster association that is committed is as important.

They were great before he came and will be great again after he leaves. Rupp won 4, Hall won 1, Pitino won 1, Tubby won 1 and Cal so far has 1. Basketball is in the blood of the state of Kentucky's people and failure will not be tolerated. So they would have found someone else to lead them there or had Mitch Barnhart's scalp. I have never forgiven Mitch Barnhart for hiring Gillespie with no contract and a MOU on a napkin. He also failed to deliver on a promise to Rich Brooks to upgrade football facilities. UK fans revolted during the Joker years and it forced Mitch to take football seriously.
