Duke as did UNC will select from their own.

Maybe not so much on their next HC if this doesn't work for them.

Are they? Are there any Duke guys that are legitimate candidates? The only former assistants I can find that are still coaching are Mike Brey at Notre Dame and Johnny Dawkins at UCF. I think it's safe to say Dawkins wouldn't even be considered given he only made the NCAAT once in 8 years at Stanford and only once in his 5 at UCF. And Mike Brey has been pretty awful the past couple of seasons at Notre Dame. For as long as he's been coaching, Coach K doesn't really have a very imporessive coaching tree.

Of his former players, you have Dawkins as mentioned already, then:
Tommy Amaker at Harvard - would be quite the jump from at an Ivy so long to this job
Chris Collins at Northwestern - 1 tournament appearance in his career
Steve Wojciechowski at Marquette - 2 NCAAT appearances in 7 years
Jeff Capel at Pittsburgh - has finished at or near the bottom of the ACC every year at Pitt after moderate success at Oklahoma
Bobby Hurley at Arizona State - 2 NCAAT appearances in 7 years, has finished in the bottom third of the Pac12 alost every other year he's been there

Absolutely, and it doesn't matter how insane we all think it is.

It sounds like it's gonna be Scheyer.

Interesting. That seems like a disastrous plan to be adamant about hiring a "Duke guy" when the list of DUke guys isn't impreesive, promoting a 33 year old coach from within for a top 3 job being even crazier.
