If Lane takes the Auburn job, I would think that precludes him from the list of who will replace Saban in the next year or two.

Bama alums, has your school ever hired an ex-Aubie?

You won't find many of those here...

They have hired former Auburn assistants/players, but not as HC

Ha! We have some actual Bama alums, just trying to keep a couple of the morons out of the thread, not naming anyone in particular.

I dont think you're allowed to be a Bama football fan if you've been to school there

I was once told that Auburn wouldn't even hire Kirby Smart because he wanted to coach in Bama's NC game.

True story. Once I was walking through New York City with an Auburn shirt on.

A homeless guy yelled "Roll Tide" at me...

I guess you'd say he was a "sidewalk" fan

They'd have to cover a huge buyout. Do you see how much we pay to fire coaches?

I've heard that too. That Auburn wanted him to start as soon as the regular season ended and not put it off until after the NC game. Kirby chose to coach his kids and, frankly, I don't blame him. If it had just been another bowl game, maybe you make that a demand, but not a NC game.

As Leto II mentioned, former Auburn assistants yes, but not as a head coach.

Saban -> NFL
Shula -> NFL
Franchione -> TCU
DuBose -> NFL
Stallings -> NFL
Curry -> Georgia Tech
Perkins -> NFL
Bryant -> Texas A&M
...

On the flip-side, Pat Dye coached at Alabama as a defensive assistant under Bryant for about eight years.

Can you think of one coach in the history of Auburn football worth stealing?

Didn't their head baseball coach come from Auburn?

I see no reason why Alabama wouldn't. I mean I doubt there is some unwritten rule that directly says "You can never hire Auburn's head coach".

But I doubt you'll ever see it for many other reasons. To start, the likelihood of taking a coach from any specific school is in itself extremely low even without any other factors involved.

He wanted absolute detail about everything to do with Cam Newton investigation. To be honest, he had a legitimate reason because Auburn still could have been nailed at the time. Then he wanted to be able to take full control of program like Saban does at bama and he currently has at Georgia. Our boosters said no.

It is still an issue to this day that the boosters want to meddle and micromanage.
