Would a national title this season be Saban’s best coaching job ever?

Considering how we struggled this season.

Edit: Vulnerable sounds better than saying we struggled.

Did you really though? You are 12-1.

Hard to say - he has had a lot of good ones.

Lots of injured players and a young team.

I think so Crimsonite. Bama looked more vulnerable than it has in quite a while this season. To win the title would be ridiculous.

I still think 2008 or 2009.

He took those guys that weren't the most talented and made them better and made them believe that they could win at the highest level.

Realistically, maybe so.

One of my favorite parts of the season is afterwards, when we find out the injuries and scenarios that the team has been dealing with behind the scenes.

(Think GMac with broken ribs, or Josh Gattis with a foot out the door.)

If we find out there were an inordinate number of challenges (other than just rebuilding) and maybe some coordinator turnovers, I think it could very well go down that way historically, at least to us fans.

More 5 star talent than any team in the country, more analysts/coaches than any other team, more players on the roster, and insane facilities. Any time they don't win it has to be considered a failure and considering they lost to a 4 loss A&M and needed a 6 loss AU with one-legged 2nd string QB to blow it by going out of bounds with under 2 minutes left, I'd say the coaching has to be considered sub-par this year compared to what bama usually does. Not saying it was bad, but there were a number of games that were competitive that never should have been.

Weren’t y’all down to y’all’s 3rd string LB in 2017? Was his name Holcombe or something along those lines? I feel like y’all had way more injuries in 2017 and more to over come so I’d go with that year over this one.

Easily. This is the worst Bama team since 2007. That's a no shitter.

Yeah. They got healthy and dominated defensively in the playoffs though.

Metchie, Allen, none of the RBs etc will be back for this playoff run.

Idk man, I still think going undefeated with that 2008 team until running into that Florida team in just his 2nd year at Bama is still up there.

That was a heart breaking loss for AU wasn't it? Y'all were kicking Bama's arse for 58 minutes straight, only to lose in gut wrenching fashion in the 4th OT.

The SEC Championship win on Saturday was a long, drawn out ordeal where Bama progressively executed their game plan and took home the W.

Other notables imo...

2008 - 12-0 and going toe to toe with Florida with an undermanned team

2009 - 13-0 and winning it all with Greg McElroy as a quarterback and a senior class that was a bunch of Shula leftovers

2014 - Going to college football playoff with Blake Sims as QB

2020 - GOAT season and covid challenges

Yes, this season or 2009 is his best coaching job imo.

He publicly rants about the bama fans complaining about the team's performance before the AU game, and now those same fans are calling this his greatest coaching performance ever. "Thank you sir, may I have another." It's amazing how much control he has over the unwashed.
