Each school's worst season opening loss since 1969...
Sorted by point margin
Mississippi St: -45 (45-0 vs LSU 2007)
Tennessee: -44 (44-0 vs Georgia 1981)
Vanderbilt: -42 (45-3 vs Georgia Tech 2002)*
Arkansas: -36 (50-14 vs USC 2006)
Ole Miss: -33 (46-13 vs Auburn 1995)
Kentucky: -31 (59-28 vs Louisville 2006)
Missouri: -30 (40-10 vs Texas 1996)
Texas A&M: -29 (35-6 vs LSU 1969)
South Carolina: -28 (28-0 vs North Carolina 1979)
Florida: -27 (31-4 vs Miami 1987)
Auburn: -24 (45-21 vs Ole Miss 1992)
LSU: -24 (24-0 vs Texas A&M 1993)
Alabama: -21 (42-21 vs USC 1970)
Georgia: -14 (35-21 vs Boise St 2011)*
*most recent
Will anyone trump these numbers this year?
Also, Florida, let's talk about those two safeties. Anybody have any context?

Wish we had more conference games opening day

Agreed. There's only been something like 22 SEC games that were season openers since 1992

In fact, the only mistakes were a halfback pass by Melvin Bratton that was easily intercepted and two long snaps to the punter. Poor Willis Peguese twice lofted the ball into the end zone for Florida safeties. “I’d like to thank their center for helping us avoid a shutout,” Florida Coach Galen Hall said.

You can't just look at the point total.
A&M's worst season opening loss over the last half-century has to be 2017 UCLA followed by 2008 Arkansas State due to the effect each had on that season.

But I did
You can do a 14-team opinion piece on the same topic in a new thread if you'd like, however. I'll upvote it.

That was pretty bad. I can only imagine how you guys died a thousand deaths watching the big lead slip away.

They had this to get them through it

Would have bet on 23-0 to USC in 2003.

That goes down as one of those things that players regret quickly after a loss.
It amazes me how many players get a sack while down by 21 or more and dance all over the field when there is only 2 minutes left in the game.
Surely their coach rips them a new one while reviewing game film.
But that marching stick, or whatever it was? Bad. Really bad.

2014:
Texas A&M 52
South Carolina 28
This one is the worst for me. Coming off three 11 win seasons, #9 pre-season ranking, premier of the SEC network, and A&M just came in to Williams Brice and kicked our arse.

It was those God awful ugly uniforms we wore that day.

They snapped what was the longest home game winning streak in the nation that day. Man I was stunned. I was not expecting what happened at all.

2016 South Alabama, 21-20 may hurt a little more than LSU 2007. As bad as that was even.

This one particularly stings because it was the Pete Carroll Vengeance Is Mine game, along the other game in that two year series.
Carroll, like a lot of coaches, Ed Orgeron included, got his big break at Arkansas. After being fired by the New York Jets Pete reportedly approached our administration.
Carroll was convinced that if Arkansas held onto its Texas recruiting ties and used the SEC to recruit the Southeast he could turn them into a national title contender. He evidently had it all planned out and ready to go.
Unfortunately, as urban legend has it, Frank Broyles, the all powerful Arkansas AD, never bothered to return Carroll's phone calls. To say that Pete had a bit of a chip on his shoulder going into those games is an understatement.
USC absolutely walked the dog on us two years running.

Blocked punt and fumbled snap if I remember correctly.
The most interesting thing about this game is that Freshman RB Emmitt Smith saw limited action in the game. Two weeks later he started his first game against Bama in BHam and rushed for 224 yards and 2 TDs in a Gator upset of the Tide.

2017 UCLA
Is that the game where Josh "Chosen" Rosen led the biggest comeback in NCAA football history and we all had to listen to ESPN give him the Heisman for a few weeks until everyone realized he just actually wasn't that great and it was just an all time meltdown by A&M and a Chavis defense that the Aggies were so proud that they got as a hand me down from their big brother?
I remember that game.

Props to Georgia. Worst week 1 loss in 50 years was only 2 TDs, and they handed the outlier "big" their worst loss.

That Mississippi State game was also on Thursday night, it was the only college football game on and we got blown out in front of the entire nation. I am still embarrassed to this day.
