Worst national title teams ever

always see talk of the best ever but how some of the weakest national title teams ever?
1998 Tennessee - lucked out that Kansas State choked to A&M, Arkansas fumble and FSU was down to like a waterboy at QB for the national title game.
2007 LSU - Two losses. One of which was to Kentucky..., benefited from the worst choke in college football history when West Virginia lost at home to a bad Pitt team 13-9 with a chance to book a place in the title game. The rout of Ohio State in the final does give them some points though.
1984 BYU - beat no ranked teams and only had to beat 6-5 Michigan in the bowl game to secure the title.
1981 Clemson - not a super impressive team. Edged out many games including sliding past Tulane. Highlight win was 10-8 over a top 10 UNC team. Beat a down Nebraska team in the title.
1990 Colorado - in my opinion the runaway worst ever. Had a loss AND a tie in the first three games of the season. Needed the 5th down to beat a poor Missouri team. And to cap it all off, had to rely on a Notre Dame punt return getting called back from a phantom block in the back call in the bowl game to squeak out a 10-9 win.
What are some others? I think it’ll be hard to include any playoff era teams here as you now have to prove yourself more than in the past

Do whatever you need during this trying time.

2010 Auburn. They escaped and had 2nd half comebacks almost every game.

1980 UGA played a horrible schedule and played a weak ND team that didn't finish in top 10

Undefeated in regulation bi-yatch
In all fairness Ohio State was the only team with 1 loss.

Yeah you’re right. Pretty similar to 81 Clemson

They finished 9/10 depending on the poll.

Yep. Our losses to Kentucky’s best football team ever and Matt Jones was a freak athlete for Arkansas. Not blitzing him on that 4th and 13 play was tarded!

I'll admit that Texas's 1970 championship loses some of its luster since they were awarded the title before the bowl game back then, and Notre Dame got revenge against UT in the '71 Cotton Bowl after what was a classic 1970 edition.

98 Vols? Really?
quote:
The '98 Vols beat eight bowl teams, including six January bowl teams, four top ten teams, and three BCS bowl-bound teams. The 1998 Tennessee Volunteers were ranked as the No. 3 college football team of all time by the Billingsley Report computer ratings.[2]
Yeah, I don't think they belong anywhere near a discussion of worst national championship teams.

Casey Dick was the QB, not Matt Jones

This one is right up there with BYU and those Weekly Reader Championships Bama claims.

2009 Bama, that Offense was average at best. It took an injury to Mccoy and a Freshman almost pulled it off.

lol, wut? That final was 37-21. Even if McCoy was in that game, give them an extra 14 pts and they still lose.
Your argument is dumb as frick.
