Early polls have us around 7th in the country

quote:

Are all the players transferring out of South Carolina a problem? Yes and no. It’s tough to talk about a situation we don’t have a ton of knowledge on but it’s never a good look when four players leave within a 24-hour period, especially when you’re losing players like Te’a Cooper and Mikiah Herbert Harrigan.

But don’t expect coach Dawn Staley to sweat it too much. She has an incredible recruiting class on the way, including top-three recruit Aliyah Boston, and will return Tyasha Harris and a few veterans as well. It was always going to be hard to retool this team after the departure of A’ja Wilson, but if any coach can steer her team to victories, it’s Staley.

We will be Improved but probably just above average again, our coach can't get us out the first round of the NCAAT.

If she has another bad year she is gone, she has had way too much time. We haven't been good since Pokey left.

A&M, MSU and SC should be the cream of the crop in the SEC this year, with some potential from Kentucky and Tennessee.

Not sure what to expect. Obviously do not expect to win the SEC again. But Texas A&M being ranked the highest SEC Team in that poll loses its credibility for me.

I agree SC is the team to beat. I think they win the SEC. I like Arkansas, Kentucky, and Mississippi State. Not sure what to expect out of Tennessee. I like Missouris coach but not sure what they have same with Auburn. Georgia was a real disappointment last year and I really do not see many other teams in this conversation.

Cooper is at Baylor now but she was a trouble maker at both Tennessee and SC.

Harrington didn't go anywhere, she's back and killing it in workouts .... on a mission. She looks really good. Boyfriend problems are over.

ETA: Those five new players Dawn signed are being called one of the greatest classes in WBB history, a proverbial "Dream Team" by some.

I mean we'll have 8 former Mickey D's All Americans on this team plus we return some very solid players in other positions.

Two of these girls in this latest class are some of the best shooters I think we've ever had and let's not forget the walkon from Lexington. She is lighting it up in practice and turned down offers from other P5 programs just to walk on and be a part of this team.

There should be a separate board for this.

How old is this article? KiKi isn't leaving. She decided to stay..and that decision was made about a month and a half ago at least.

It is a shame that most college programs recruit from a handful of national tournaments, watching only the top teams play in the finals.

What these coaches and scouts do is issue bulk offers to the best players from these teams. One player might get 20 offers. The coaches don't go anywhere else to recruit, or offer anyone else.

Total lazy approach.

This causes tournament coaches to hustle after the tallest and most athletic players they can find from their region, sometimes bringing in players from other states to play on their tournament teams. They don't even practice together. Its all about height, dominance, and speed. In that order.

There are superstar girls that never get a look unless they play at these national tournaments.

VOLS made a big mistake paying this coach they hired $750k when she would have taken the job for $100k.

This "coaching search" was the perfect chance to completely relegate the program to tennis, volleyball, rowing status.

No reason they should be playing their games in Thompson Boling anymore.

I'm curious how the Lady Vols do this year. The talent has always been there. I'm wondering if Holly was just a terrible coach.

Here's another one as of 9/4
quote:

7. South Carolina Gamecocks
Previous: 9

The loss of seven players from last year's Sweet 16 team, including three transfers, is eased by the arrival of the top recruiting class in the country and, by most accounts, one of the best in the sport in years. Mikiah Herbert Harrigan's decision to stay in Columbia for her senior year after entering the transfer portal is also a big boost. Along with guards Tyasha Harris and Destani Henderson, she gives Dawn Staley a veteran foundation. However, if the Gamecocks are to win an SEC title and compete for a Final Four spot, that freshmen class -- headed by top-10 recruits 6-foot-5 post Aliyah Boston, point guard Zia Cooke and forward Laeticia Amihere -- will have to contribute immediately.

quote:

9. Mississippi State Bulldogs
Previous: 8

A busy summer for coach Vic Schaefer -- who led Mississippi State to a silver medal at the World University Games and served as an assistant for Team USA at the Pan Am Games -- concluded with some even better news when guard Jordan Danberry was granted another year of eligibility. Danberry, the Bulldogs' third-leading scorer last season, can now anchor a backcourt that includes solid shooters Bre'Amber Scott and Andra Espinoza-Hunter and the hopeful healthy return of Chloe Bibby, an even bigger long-range threat. Promise Taylor, a 6-foot-5 Ole Miss transfer, and 6-foot-5 sophomore Jessika Carter will try to replace the production of Teaira McCowan in the middle.

quote:

10. Texas A&M Aggies
Previous: 5

Chennedy Carter has the ability to shoot the Aggies into almost any game, as evidenced in the NCAA tournament against Marquette and almost in the Sweet 16 against Notre Dame. Carter, the second-leading returning scorer in the country (23.3 PPG), is probably the best one-on-one player in the game. She won't have to do it alone, however. The Aggies bring back fellow juniors Kayla Wells, Aaliyah Wilson (back from injury), Ciera Johnson and N'dea Jones to compete for a title in the most wide-open SEC in years.

quote:

13. Kentucky Wildcats
Previous: 12

Matthew Mitchell will be able to build his team around versatile Rhyne Howard, last season's espnW national freshman of the year. She has first-team All-American talent and will be the undisputed No. 1 option with the graduation of Maci Morris and Taylor Murray. Arizona State transfer Sabrina Haines, a 5-foot-10 guard, will be eligible right away, and 5-foot-5 Texas transfer Chasity Patterson, the top-rated high school point guard two years ago, can play at midseason, giving the Wildcats needed balance. How much Kentucky is able to compete at the top of the SEC might depend on the improvement of forwards KeKe McKinney and Tatyana Wyatt.

quote:

19. Arkansas Razorbacks
Previous: 22

Momentum is the big word around the Razorbacks after they finished the season so impressively with a run to the SEC tournament title game and a third-round WNIT appearance. Junior Chelsea Dungee (20.5 PPG last season) will be one of the top scorers in the SEC, and third-year coach Mike Neighbors has five of his next six top scorers from last season back. Guard Amber Ramirez, a former McDonald's All American, is eligible after her transfer from TCU and could be the perfect running mate for Dungee.
