A lot to unpack here.
It started off with a piece from the Wash Post in which someone leaked a portion of the meeting the ADs had and concern players had.

I hope more of our leaders get some balls and start pushing back on some things. It's obvious there is no end to the demands and bullshite until someone finally says it's enough.

Doesn’t get more spoiled than having certain people make millions off the labor and skills of workers who are being paid in peanuts. This is the very foundation of capitalism. If you have a skill for which there is a high demand for and few people with it, you kind of get to set the rules for what you are willing to take for your services.
I guarantee you that if colleges don’t make these players happy, they can and will find someone who will and college football will be 2nd and 3rd tier players trying their best to play the sport.
That’s where we are. College is not a requirement for a pro career in the NFL. It’s been used that way because the players allowed it to be used that way, but if they unionize and refuse to play without pay, I can promise you the NFL will adapt new policies to get those star players. They certainly are not going to start drafting lower tier players just because they “played in college”.

Wolken seems like the kind of guy who will cry about the need for player unions in college sports, and then when it leads to college sports either operating like pro sports or dying off he'll cry about how we need college sports to come back or return to being amateur. He'll also cry about having lost his job if college sports die off.

I don’t believe those who died, nor their families, care which large gatherings the people that have covid to their loved ones attended.

the whole premise of shutting down society is stupid anyway. even if the hospitals were starting to be overwhelmed, which they NEVER were, society would adapt, quickly. field hospitals were erected in hours that went completely unused. we're fast tracking treatments like never before. when the need is there, we find a way. society has never shut down like this for a virus. hey guess what - SWEDEN STILL EXISTS.

I agree, but I also agree with private organizations being able to set their own rules. You join the organization, you abide by the rules. Don't like it? Then leave.
Players join the NCAA knowing full well what the deal is. For 99 percent of the athletes in NCAA sports, their "compensation" is significantly more than their market value. They are getting more than they likely deserve.
For a very small amount of athletes, perhaps they could do better elsewhere and maybe they should try.
There is a reason, though, why the XFL and other similar leagues have failed -- no one likes minor league sports.
Colleges have a built in fan base, so NCAA players often have an inflated sense of their value.
