yawn

Literally nothing of substance in that whole article.

Bradley just took old quotes from a Online Athens article and rehashed it without adding a lick of substantial evidence

Here's all you need to know:

quote:

As for Georgia-Florida, he said “we both give up a lot. They give up the opportunity to have one of their greatest recruiting days and we give up our opportunity to have one of our best recruiting days. If that averages one player a year, that’s four or five good players. That’s tough where every other team we compete against, they get the opportunity to bring recruits. We don’t get the opportunity to bring recruits to this game. It’s a disadvantage when you’re talking about against a Tennessee or an Auburn or somebody who gets the extra home games.”

McGarity said he understands the coaches’ sentiments, but financially it makes sense to keep playing the game every year in Jacksonville.

If the series went home-and-home, each school would lose about $2.6 million over those two years, he said.

“From a financial standpoint, it’s a win-win,” he said. “And really, it’s become so much more than a football game in Jacksonville. It’s become a week of celebration for South Georgia and North Florida. There are only two traditional games left of that nature (with the other Texas-Oklahoma). That’s where we are at this time.”

Said Smart: “It’s something we’ll always look at in the offseason.”

Why don't they do a 4 year rotation.

@athens
@gainesville
@jax
@jax

Would give fans the best of both worlds.

Because fans of UGA and UF don't want that. It's a game that's supposed to be played in Jacksonville.

With that format, it would be easy to tell who would be the home team in Jax.

They could at least do a 2 year break so UGa and FL both get to visit the opposing team’s stadium. That wouldn’t be too bad

It already is though.

All teams normally get 4 home and 4 road SEC games.

Whoever is only getting 3 SEC home games, it's clearly "their" turn for a home game.

Do Georgia fans believe that the game being in FLA give them a homecooking advantage?

I know with OU-Texas, we normally have to overcome both the Horns and their Zebras.

We own the series record against UF and when the officiating has been bad, it’s never really been a “oh they’re clearly looking out for Florida” type of thing. I mean hypocrisy of Tebow jumping around doing the gator chomp not drawing a flag when it does for everyone else aside, when the officiating has sucked it’s usually sucked both ways.

Jacksonville has a Florida address, sure, but it’s damn near South Georgia both in geography and culture. People who oppose the game being there grew up during the 90s or have never done that weekend properly. It’s not the kind of game you just drive into town for the day and get out of dodge right after. It’s meant to be an extended weekend spent at the beach and in golf courses, kind of like a bowl game in the middle of the year. There’s a reason UGA schedules its Fall break for that specific weekend and professors often cancel classes days before that even.

There’s no game that sucks more to lose (except Tech) but there’s also no game that’s as much fun to win. Home and home would ruin the energy entirely because it’s the 50/50 split down the end zones that makes it so unique; you have no choice but to suffer the roar of the other side when they do well and vice versa. You can literally feel the momentum shift back and forth throughout a game and then watching the other side retreat when they know they’ve lost is pure schadenfreude.

& the format above tells you UGA will be the Home team every other year without having to check the schedules.

Any Georgia fan or really anyone who thinks it should be moved has never been to the game. Georgia folks would be more pissed than Florida folks if the venue changed.

I was at the game when it was moved to Gainesville in 1994 and Georgia fans looked lost. They were trying to tailgate in all the wrong places and it was weird. I didn't go to Athens in 1995 but I am sure Florida fans looked the same way.
