NIT winner is still the 69th best team in the country.
1st round loss obviously is better.

69 is my favorite number.

I would rather lose in the first round of the NIT

Win the NIT probably. Losing the first day of the tourney is a pretty empty feeling. Winning any tournament is fun. Well almost any tournament. We won this shitty puerto rican tournament like 6 years ago. There were like 6 teams and all were complete garbage. The trophy celebration was laughable.

Lose first round of tourney. NIT is irrelevant
Posted on 2/23/13 at 8:34 pm to CGSC Lobotomy
That's some pretty flawed logic

Win NIT...much greater achievement and more historically significant than being a first or second round exit.
Sweet16 loss or elite8 loss I'd definitely take over winning the NIT, but first and second round of NCAA tourney means nothing unless you win.
Surprising that so many people are choosing the 1st round loss in the tourney over winning the NIT. In a related thought, I'd argue it's actually more embarrassing to lose in the first round of the tournament than to not make the tournament altogether.

Personally, I'd take the NIT championship. Especially with a young team, the extra games and practice time would be invaluable. Not to mention learning to win in a tourney atmosphere.

I'm thinking get to the NCAAs is better for the attitude around the program.
Consider football for a second, and make the comparison. Would you rather get to and lose in a fairly big, new year's bowl, or win the New Orleans bowl? One shows you that you made it pretty close, and gives you something to build on next season. The other is not going to excite recruits, the fan base, or give you a lot of anything other than "well we won the last game".

I think I'd rather win the NIT, but I'd rather get bounced in the NCAA tourney if the previous year my team had gone to the NIT.

What is this NIT you speak of?

NIT needs to move to a December, or maybe November, preseason tourney only.
then it will be impressive to win this.

Personally, I would rather win the NIT. If your team is in the NIT, they are usually an up and coming team that could possibly be rebuilding. If you win the NIT, the future always looks bright.

No one gives a frick about the NIT champ. Making the dance is an accomplishment.
