Does anybody think Texas and Oklahoma are SEC ready?

If you look at ATM’s record, they started out strong out of the gate, but got progressively worse over the next 5 years. Last years winning percentage was .417.

If you take a look at Missouri, in their first 3 seasons of SEC play, they had 2 of their best records ever. But ever since, they have been mediocre.

I expect Texas and Oklahoma to come in fired up, be decent for a few years, and then descend into mediocrity as they realize they can’t keep up.

The culture just isn’t there for these big 12 schools.

aTm had a Heisman QB at the time and the East was hot trash.

eta To answer your question, they will win some and lose some but they won't contend right out the gate.

Let me answer you after I see the schedule and if OU signs another top 5 class

I will say with an 8 game schedule it's about as soft of a transition as I can imagine

4 tomato cans ooc
Texas*
3 SEC home games
4 SEC road.

I think OU gets Alabama on the road and probably Tennesse at home.

I think the road is there to win 9 games

Do you think we're going to go 0-8 or something? Is Florida SEC ready? Ole Miss? State? Kentucky? Auburn?

This conversation will be more interesting after this season. OU had a first year HC fluke year with 4 losses by 3 points to go 6-7 (could have been 10-3). Had a top 5 class. Coach stability. Got rid of soft Riley players.

I think folks will sing a different tune after this year. But go in and win SEC year 1. No. Will be competitive though.

Considering the past decade, there’s a big 3 with every possible advantage, a huge drop off, then 7-8 programs jammed up together battling each other for middle of the pack.

For football, we’ll be in that mix. That’s our commitment level to it.

I admit, there is better talent on the field in the SEC, but this sounds like the Big 12 was last year. No extremely strong contender. Any Saturday, you could lose to anyone.

With these 2 schools getting n the SEC foot print you can expect recruiting for both these schools to improve. They might struggle some but it won’t be to much for them to overcome. I expect OU to be pretty damn good in the SEC actually. They will fit in with our culture here

I think Oklahoma will come in stronger than many expect. I still don’t get Texas fitting into SEC culture and think their fan base is in for a bit of shock.

Don’t fool yourself.. Oklahoma and Texas are not Texas Am and Mizzou. They are 2 of the best brands in college football. The will immediately be in the top half of the league. They aren’t starting at the bottom in any sport in the conference.

The Big 6 will always be the big six because of being founding members and success; but The “Big 8” brands include these 2.

I’m not going to say Texas is back, but I expect them to win the Big12 this year; fairly easily , and have a shot at the playoffs…. It’s gonna be hard to go 12-0 with the game in Tuscaloosa. Sark has made progress; it’s year 3.

OU is restructuring. That’s the best word for it. As much as Venables got criticized last year, it was half intentional. He’s changing the culture, weeding out players, and played youth last year. You will see drastic improvement this year.

The Road just got drastically harder for some of the conference members.

Venables and Lebby will recruit towards the top of the sec. They did it from the big 12 after a 6-7 season and losing the most offensive talent in the country and a full staff turnover. Obviously the sec is the deepest conference in the country and a major grind week to week but OU and Texas will be no less than any other team that competes for the sec based on talent alone.

I can only imagine the bidding wars between Texas and Texas A&M for texas recruits in the upcoming years. Those Texas kids will be set for life before even stepping on campus. Jimbo bought the number 1 recruiting class a few years ago but prices just went up with Texas joining the conference.

Oklahoma will be the better addition after 5 years in from a multitude of sports. Culturally they are a better fit (except their fight song sucks arse). I know they are in a rebuild in football but after Lincoln raided the pantry they are going to need 2-3 years to restock the talent pantry. I think their fans understand this.

Texas has money and fans but a reputation of over controlling boosters and unrealistic expectations. The football team is like how UT(Tenner) has been this decade before this last season. They will need to get a better coach and leave him alone enough to truly rebuild the program. Congrats on getting Manning but we all know he is overrated. Honestly I’m only excited about having them for baseball.

Definitely not traveling to Austin for anything. If I wanted to see a group of mentally ill people waving dildos at people I would just travel to college station and hangout with the milkmen after a midnight yell.

Edited because autocorrect sucks.
