They'll be "back."

But not before Bama hangs 20 in a row on them.

I do think the Nebraska comparison is the scariest comparison. Weak recruiting base. Last glory in the 90s. Both now afterthoughts.

Tennessee's recruiting base is dramatically better than Nebraska's. Recruiting generally hasn't been this big problem it has been imagined to be.

The big problem (besides the overall stink of the AD) is development. Generally, We get better players than most of the SEC (don’t run with this statement, I mean we are usually top 6ish in the conference). But once they get on campus, there is no development whatsoever. And it’s been a consistent problem for 10 years.

Obtaining talent isn’t a problem. We have been absolutely wretched and still bringing in decent classes. We desperately need a coach who can make 3/4 stars play up to a higher level.

For what it's worth, Nebraska, under Scott, has to fight to stay around the top 20 in recruit rankings. That's almost impossible to make a mark in the B1G or even the Big 12 these days. I don't think any football program changed the dynamics of their recruiting base more than Nebraska when they decided to leave the Big 12. I think it was a big mistake.

TAMU hit the lotto. They are genuinely coming out of Texas's shadow in the SEC. I would guess the Aggie fans have never been as optimistic as they are entering the Jimbo era. Not playing texas has worked out well for them, at the same time Texas flopping around in the Big 12 for a decade now has only created more gap. The distinction has never been greater. Validation as a new football power is coming from the best division in college football and that is easily trumping the longhorn state in past world perception. Did I mention TAMU hit the lotto?

Arky is somewhere between Nebraska and TAMU. They weren't Nebraska in football prowess, so had less to live up to. They also haven't been the football program they were before they left the old SWC. It's almost been 30 years since the big move so I guess arky has learned to live with the difference.

All in all, I make Nebraska the big, big, loser of football credibility. They need to go home, find their football culture again and fast.
