We all know how talented UK’s starting group is, one of the best in the SEC, but do they have the depth to make a run? They only play 6-7 players. Do they even have a backup PG?

We play 8. 9 if sharpe gets brought in. Depth will only come into play if we have injuries at the point guard spot again. We don’t foul out really at all so that shouldn’t be a problem. You don’t need a super deep bench during the tourney bc there’s longer tv timeouts. Pace of the game is a lot slower

Most teams only play 6-7 guys in the tourney anyways. No it won’t hinder them.

Also they have a top 10 nba draft pick on their bench

All you need is a 7-9 rotation in March. Is this a troll attempt?

What? Media timeouts don’t change in the tournament. There’s a timeout after every stoppage of play at 16,12,8, and 4 minutes. They might Be longer but there isn’t more of them.

Sahvir Wheeler Just got injured in the posting of this thread. He will be out for about 5-10 minutes.

We play 8.

Yet have four averaging over 30 minutes a game and four under ten (not counting what I assume to be the walk-ons).

Auburn, by comparison, doesn't have a single player averaging 30 minutes. The closest is Jabari with 27.6. Outside of the starters, they have 5 averaging more than 10 minutes.

All those minutes can start piling up and have an impact, particularly come tournament time.

Their lack of depth was a big reason why they struggled when Washington went out. Wheeler can handle the ball, sure, but you're then putting him at playing 35+ minutes a game. With his troubles of running into trees, that's concerning.

Exactly. You need enough depth where a guy not playing 37 minutes isn’t an excuse.

Time outs in regular vs tournament games

Read up on it…usually a shorter bench excels in March.

Downvoting doesn't change it, either.

I am not a fan of playing more than 7.5 in March. It used to be a big debate in Knoxville when Pearl was here. He has always been a guy who preferred playing 9-10 obviously. Wins you a lot of games but it also seems like in March one guy can often carry a team for a full game or two and it’s sometimes hard for that to happen under Bruce when they’re not getting as many minutes as other team’s frontline guys.

A guy like Jabari Smith should be playing 38+ minutes in every losable tourney game imo.

Yep, the tourney comes down to talent and not depth. Guard play is a must in March.

They should probably start by not running full speed into players twice their size.

A better question would be will Pearl cut your alls rotation to better fit the tournament. A lot of depth is good during the regular season but in the tourney it’s important to have a set rotation and your best players playing a majority of the game

Why do you care?

Mintz and Grady can play point.

Wheeler and Tyty are the two can run the point. Tyty runs it when wheeler goes out. You’ll never see both of them out if healthy. If both are unavailable for whatever reason it would then go to Mintz

Can they at a high level though? Not so sure. The offense came to a standstill with Wheeler and TyTy out, from what I saw

Why are you mad at me? It isn’t my fault you don’t have any depth. Blame Coach Cal
