Arkansas had just as good a claim to '77 as Alabama and Notre Dame had in that day and age. It's just a shame the media was in bed for the Irish.

This and '65. We had one loss. Bama had a loss and a tie and claims it. Mich State had one loss and claimed it (to a lesser team and larger Margin). So I say we have 3!

Think he meant 1909. We were 7-0, but I'm pretty sure Yale would've handed us our asses, so I'm not claiming that one. Unless it's the Non-military, non-Ivy league NC.

Notre Dame claims '77 and Alabama and Michigan State claim '65 because one or both of the major wire service polls awarded them the national championship in each of those years. UPI gave their national title to Michigan State before the bowls, AP waited until after the bowl games with Alabama the only team in the Top 5 left standing.

1908, Arkansas and Princeton were the only unbeaten and untied teams in the country. You can guess who the NY media picked as the champion right.

Negative. 1908 LSU went 10-0 and out scored opponents 443-11. Arkansas was undefeated in 1909, they were 5-4 in 1908.

Claim a championship 100 years after the fact? That's some Alabama shite.

1964 and 1977. Why don't we claim '77? Bama does it all the time. We beat the shite outta the #2 rankied Oklahoma Sooners with several starters benched. Notre Dame should not have been voted over us. In retrospect, I think we could make the strongest case to claim it.

Heard Holtz speak both publicly and privately many times - even talked to him one-on-one on a couple of occasions.

Never heard him make that contention.

Now, with that stated, I do believe he probably had mixed feelings given his disdain for Broyles and his love of the Irish.

I have heard both Jimmy Johnson and Jerry Jones content, before, that Arkansas should have been #1 in '77.

Hey! Everyone keeps saying that Bama is the premier program in college football and the beacon of the conference. Sooooo....what's good for the elephants is good for us other animals.

He was discussing the BCS and he definately said we had a gripe. BUT, he can't be too vocal against his beloved Notre Dame. I was shocked to hear him say it. I think he said if the points were tallied like they are for the BCS, Arkansas would have been number one.
