Former LSU wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase, a projected first-round pick in the NFL draft, revealed Thursday he had COVID-19 and had trouble breathing, which led to his decision to opt out of the 2020-21 college football season.

In an interview with NFL Network's Jane Slater, Chase said he needed asthma pumps while dealing with the virus.

"That's what really made me think about my decision the most, 'cause I couldn't breathe as much and I was even using asthma pumps, and I haven't had asthma since I was a kid.

"I'm just trying to look at my health in the long experience and make sure I'm in good health," Chase told Slater.

Sounds like his agent and PR got together and came up with a plan to explain quitting.

Covid hit me pretty hard. I would've tried that had I thought about it when I had it. It helped him when it would flare up as a kid and I can understand why he would try it. It actually makes sense to me.

I'm skeptical myself on that, don't want to be dick so I will give the benefit of doubt to Chase.

I have a son with asthma, I'm not skeptical of Chase just the timing of the story.

He should be the first wr taken in the draft after opting out. He clearly made the right decision for him and his family, since he can't go any higher. But if another wr is taken, then the conversation of if he did right thing becomes more interesting.

If true then he obviously made the smart decision to opt out.

Not sure why he would wait until now to tell anyone though.
