Why would we want the final four decided on the field?

I have no idea what you are talking about. It's rare that 3 teams really deserve to be in the playoffs, much less 4.
And by the time we get down to the final 4, it's all but apparent.
Not a fan of the committee, but it's almost impossible for them to frick it up. They sure as hell aren't going to leave out teams who actually deserve it. I don't give a frick about people crying over the #4 spot to be honest.
