Anyone believe it was all Sunseri's fault? I don't think he helped himself out any, but I do think it was more of a personel problem for his scheme. Any thoughts?

we were top 25 in total defense under Wilcox in 2011. In 2012 we were almost dead last in the nation.

Oh yah, 10 of 11 starters returned from 11 to 12, and we added McCullers and Sentimore to our roster.

I'd say Sal is probably at fault.

So you think recruiting for a 4-3 for 3 years had nothing to do with the 3-4? Or the fact that your DB's were about as fast as most teams LBer's?

one play really sums up the season.

3 and 25 against USC, they throw a touchdown pass. The commentators on ESPN were literally laughing at Sunseri's play call.

We played one safety deep.

literally, laughing, and outright called out his defensive play call.

You can expect some growing pains, but when you have an incompetent slob heading up the transition, it's a lot more difficult than need be.

scheme change could lead to some growing pains, but it shouldn't lead to 115th ranked defense in the nation and statistically the worst Tennessee defense since 1893.

Poor scheme but UT had the worse secondary I may have ever seen on a SEC team, really saying something after watching Vandy's lean years. Slow and taking terrible angles is never a good combination.

Front 7 actually could be pretty good next year if Maggit can return from the ACL well.

The secondary was the weak link that they couldn't ever fix. Too slow. Plus bad playcalling and new scheme and you have the ut defense.

I know what you are saying, but you were trying to fit a square peg in a round hole with the personel you had. Also didn't he lose like 3 starting DB's right before the season started? I don't think it was all Sal's fault.

some blame could be put on Dooley for hiring that abomination.

UT, schematically, looked just like Bama. It's funny to see people run down the scheme.

For the record, Bama wasn't great on defense in 2007, Saban's first year.

I think most of UT's problem had to do with players. They had one of the worst secondaries I have ever seen from a big time SEC program.

literally anyone in this thread, blaming anyone other than Sunseri, didn't watch a single TN game this year.

Arky went 4-8 last year. Suck a dick and choke on it.

Dooley's fault for changing schemes in an important year. Complete trainwreck.

I watched several UT games this year and saw one of the worst secondaries I have ever seen. If you hadn't lost those starting DB's right before the year I don't think it would have been nearly as bad. Do you have any other examples other than the ones that the announcer had to point out for you?

Pretty easy to spot UT in a base defense getting constantly torched. Not to mention multiple times where you can see the LB's screaming to the sideline for the playcall on 3rd downs, etc.

I don't think Sal was ready to be calling defensive plays and it was painfully obvious. I'm guessing his plan to install Bama's defense in one off season without Saban, Smart, etc. didn't work out like he had hoped.
