Why was Isaiah Joe a 3-star?

Did he miss his whole senior season? Did he not play AAU ball?
That kid is legit and he wasn't on any recruiting service's radar

Some Arkansas fans including myself took some heat for saying him and his class was very underrated.
Arkansas HS basketball is underrated as a whole, total opposite of Arkansas HS football.

He was a Hog commit since he was 8 years old. Never wanted to play for anyone else.

He was an ESPN 4 star. #2 player in the state behind Ethan Henderson. Desi Sills was #3 and Connor Vanover(sitting out) was #4.

ESPN gives out 4-star ratings like candy, though. He was incredibly underrated for what kind of shooting talent he is.

Plus, it's not like the rest of the class is lighting the world on fire. Jones was a late addition but besides him the second best player from that class is... Sills? Chaney?

Great athlete but doesn't play full tilt. Takes plays off (a lot).

He was known though on the AAU circuit. He just wasn’t ever going anywhere other than Arkansas.
Him, Desi, Hill(transferred), and Reggie Perry all played AAU together. They were dominant. At one point Anderson had the entire team committed.

Ouch. Who rated these guys? Otis Kirk?

Chaney replaced Reggie Perry when State swooped in with their bag of cash. Perry was a Hog until very late in the game.

He’s not really a basketball player, just a good athlete. He will transfer out after this season.

I remember talking to you about that but I really wasn't just referring to you. That is a different argument though. In general the point was that class would be reranked higher now than it was previously..

I mean thats a fairly big exception. Joe and Jones are a great pair to lead a recruiting class looking back. But to answer your question, Sills. He has been inconsistent but played at a fairly high level to end the season last year, hopefully he gets back to that.

He didn’t need AAU to get noticed like some kids - he committed to Arkansas his Sophomore year of high school. Mike Anderson was adamant on recruiting in state talent and he got him early. He was Mikes first commit for the 2018 class.

I still wouldn’t call that class unheralded though. It was a top 16 class in the nation and it was a top 10 class until Perry took the money.
All of that core group of freshman were known nationally on the AAU circuit.
It was Mikes best recruiting effort.

He played at a high school in the wrong portion of the state as far was being noticed in basketball. He was also on a team with other D1 caliber players so his stats were not off the sheets since he wasn't asked to carry the team like Monk at Bentonville for example.
The forward on his HS team will be on the hill next year, and his lil bro is just as good as he was at the same age and has basically no recognition in recruiting at this point.
