Alabama could have 7 1st round picks this year and we all know Alabama is used to winning national chamipnship rings so anything short of a national title shot is essentially meaningless to the fans and players. If I am Jerry Jeudy or Henry Ruggs or Trevon Diggs what do i have to gain by playing in a game that my school doesnt care about anyway and potentially getting injured and losing millions? These kids have already watched their potential #1 pick QB get hurt and maybe lose millions. Also, all these guys have Natl title rings already so it isnt like they have never won in the CFB postseason before. Just trying to see if there is an argument for them playing outside of "you shouldnt leave your team hanging."

"anything short of a national title shot is essentially meaningless to the fans and players." LOL We are in the 150th year of college football even if you use the made up number Bama does, they have 17 national titles out of 150 years. A lot of essentially meaningless years of football for Bama fans and players. lol

Good points, PhillyFan. Then again, why does Joe Burro play another game? Are a possible SEC Championship and possible National Championship ring worth a career that could earn a player like Burro hundreds of millions of dollars before it is over with?

Any player can be hurt during any game and at any time? Is the risk worth it for him for momentary adulation of a bunch of people who work at nutria processing plants and pick their tooth with crawdad claws?

We are talking about a young man and his future of either security with no monetary worries or a young man working as an insurance agent selling life insurance policies to people that can't read in Plaquemine just to pay the bills.

If I'm Joe Burro, I don't play another college game, period. frick 'dat. Get 'dat money and make sure you don't screw up your very bright future.

Burro has already watched several players this year, at lsu, get injured. K'Lavon Chaisson missed all of 2018 with a knee injury, so I'm sure that weighs heavy on his mind too.

I'm just trying to see if there is any reason for Burro to play another game in college other than, "you shouldn't leave your team hanging".

Playing on a team and being a member of a brotherhood isn't about working together so everyone benefits and achieving goals, it's about looking out for yourself.

It’s “ Burrow”. Like A1abama, you’re a “W” short.

the decision for Burrow is if he is willing play and take on the risk of injury a game implies, versus sitting out and regret passing up a once in a lifetime experience the rest of his life.

Life is about trading risks for experience and opportunity for experience. The risk of injury, while everpresent, is very small. regretting the decision to sit out later in life is a guarantee.

Burrow has a chance to get LsU their first national title in over a decade. He would tarnisb his legacy in Louisiana by getting the team this close to a title and dipping. This is essentially a forgettable year for Alabama. A complete disappoinment that wont be rectified by beating Memphis in the Cotton Bowl or UVA on the Orange Bowl. Bama players have everything to lose and nothing to gain by playing in another CFB game.

My God, I'm glad most players across the board do not think like the fans on this site. So, Tua should never have played college football because he could get hurt? Or Joe Burrow the same thing? That's fricking stupid. I get it that LF7 triggered you at some point (my guess is you are an Ole Miss fan? ) but you got to get over the stupids.

I see. But, as the original poster so gracefully stated, some games are more important than others and players on teams should pick and choose which games they want to play in because that is what being a teammate is all about.

In his vision of how things should be, a player that is sure to play in the NFL should probably just play as a freshman, maybe as a junior, and then start thinking about himself and that money.

To hell with all the ignorant fans, other teammates, and shite as transparent and meaningless in the whole scheme of life as winning or losing a game, no matter the stakes, in college when the NFL is waiting.

Dude doesn’t understand logic. He’s comparing players who already have rings to players who are still playing for rings

Right, and his legacy in a shite-hole state he isn't even from is more important than how many millions of dollars he will take to the bank in just a few months?

Let's face it, Burro should not play another game in college if he is smart.

Right?

You have a deep understanding of things, that is clear. If you have a ring, playing is optional.

If you don't have a ring, you have to play to get a ring and risk everything you've dreamed about concerning your future for a 300 dollar hunk of metal.

If you play for a historically shitty team, like lsu, you have to play to make the team less shitty. If you play for a team like Alabama that has known real success, what is the point of any player playing even a single game?

Thanks for clearing it all up with your brilliant logic.

Well the players are still on the Alabama roster and they are still students enrolled in the University.

Just why did they go to Alabama? First, to attain their degree in their chosen field. Second, to play football.
But yet now it seems to be in the vogue for some of these players to sit out football games. Why not just sign with the school and sit out all the games for three years until the draft.

Unless they have a bonafide injury, they are obligated to play until the season is completed.

This idea of sitting out games just shows that the player is a quitter and if I am a NFL scout that throws up a red flag to me.

From a purely business risk management point of view, this is correct.

Joe is not doing for money. He is doing for love.

Love of the game, his teammates and coaches, the people that have embraced him.

There is no way that Burrow is sitting out anything while they are in contention. Now, it would be interesting to see what he did if they lost the SECCG and for some reason were left out of the playoff, but that won’t happen.

However, for other teams that were ‘natty or bust’ this year like Bama and UGA (assuming we lose on Saturday) then there is very little incentive to play at all in whatever meaningless bowl game results from the season. They had their shots and they would have missed. It is what it is, but after missing the playoff any bowl game is just a chance to get more kids hurt.

They’d be better off if they could keep the extra practices but skip the bowl games to start getting ready for another attempt next year or just playing all their backups and getting playing time for the 2nd / 3rd teams since the school will want to take the $ from the bowl game.

Can't wait till Saban has to answer those draft questions and sitting out bowl game.
That poor media member that has to ask that question.

In other words, you are of the opinion that only players who love their team/do it for love and are in the playoffs should play.

Any player not in a playoff game should wholesale boycott any bowl game that may come their way?

What about players that are actually in the playoffs but don't love the team or play for love like Burro does?

Should they be forced to play?

Of course, your qualifier for Alabama players sitting out is that they wanted to win the NC this season and didn't, so it's acceptable for them not to play in a bowl game.

Any player on a team that didn't want to win a NC but are still going to a bowl game should definitely play though, right?

Delve into your reasoning a bit more and clarify things.

Remember when Fournette, McCaffery, and Greedy sat out? All the Gumps said how wrong they were and none of Coach Saban’s players would do that. I remember.
