Instead of Clemson and Florida State.

Serious question.

Just curious.

(I extremely dislike both FSU and Miami)

Do we really want another team with plastic fans? Texas has the Mexicans and Miami has the Cubans.

Because Miami is a small private school in a non college town that plays in a crumbling stadium

Because Miami is a small private school with no fanbase or donors. We are already stuck with Vandy, we don't need another private school who has no fan support.

No idea why people keep bringing Miami up. We are idiots if we ever even consider taking them. Even if we go to 30 teams they shouldn't even be considered. They bring nothing to the table.

Because neither team can afford to give up all of their TV money until 2036. Clemson and Miami aren't going anywhere (and neither is any other ACC team...)

quote:

The ACC has an ‘exit fee’ to leave the conference set right at about $52 million. I know what you’re thinking here: What’s the big deal? Clemson would make enough off its first year of television revenue payout in the SEC to cover that ‘exit fee’ and there’s a chance that the SEC would even pitch in to help.

While that exit number is doable, it’s the league’s Grant of Rights agreement that all but keeps schools locked into the conference.

For those who are unfamiliar, a Grant of Rights agreement is written permission from an institution- like Clemson- to relinquish control of television rights for the duration of the deal. The ACC’s deal is set to expire in 2036. If you leave the ACC, you forfeit the television earnings. So, when you total what Clemson might make off its ACC television payout, you’re talking hundreds of millions of dollars.

Why either? The SEC has USC and UF, so adding Clemson and FSU doesn't really offer much financial benefit.

No. Just saying they (and Mexicans) make shitty college football fans. AKA plastics. Did you not read my post?

Miami is a private institution and as such should be significantly lower on the priority list. VA, UNC, NCST, Maryland would be higher priorities

I agree.

I’m just responding to the Clemson/FSU talk on this board.

I lived in Miami for a few years. The school was mostly transients, there were hardly any dorms. Most of the students were from wealthy families from NY/NJ and didn’t give a shite about college sports. They played back then in the Orange bowl which was like playing in the pit from hell, and there was hardly anyone who cared. I don’t think much has changed.

Wait so if Clemson leaves the ACC before 2035 they can’t earn tv money until after that deal expires as they granted their tv rights to the ACC? Holy crap

Even after being the 2nd best team in CFB over the past decade, Clemson still comes across as a mickey mouse program. No thanks

Despite past successes and still being a big name, Miami does not bring anything to the table. They don't have many fans, it's a small private school so there's a small alumni base, their administration is awful, Miami isn't a college sports town, and their football stadium is like a 2 hour drive from their campus. Just, no. Clemson fricking sucks but at least they have a ton of fans and their own stadium on campus.
