Why is Ole Miss dying?

Fall 2020 enrollment figures show the decline in enrollment in Oxford isn't slowing down.
Ole Miss (not counting the medical school in Jackson) is now actually closer in enrollment to Southern Miss than it is to Mississippi State. It's even worse when you realize they count a few hundred "satellite campus" students in their official number.
When did State officially become Big Bro?

Lack of on campus class could be one.

Didn't they go 100% online?

And State puts more students in the medical center than anyone else to top it off.
We've been big bro for a while now. Been more state fans in Mississippi for a while now.
But, they are also more than half out of state students. And being nearly 100% online a lot of parents would rather switch their kid into a community college and not pay anything than send them to Ole Miss for all online.

Has Delta State had to cut faculty or services? Losing one fifth of your enrollment is a serious problem.

Thanks, Biden.
Might as well get used to saying it.

For most middle class profession, where you go to college means less today than ever.
Short of engineering, accounting, and MD/Law related undergrad majors, I am not sure we shouldn't just have a Government funded Online Curriculum for most degrees.
College campuses are becoming obsolete ...

State allows for free OOS tuition to a lot of places...Whereas Ole Miss doesn’t.
It’s not always about the quantity of students either

Nobody wants their daughter on the same campus as Joey Freshwater.

Surprised DSU is that low. Always thought it was closer to Jackson state in size

No they aren't dying. Lower enrollment is all the frightened Covidians afraid to come out of their basement.

60% of their students are out of state
Why pay $40,000 for zoom college ?
Frick all that
And the towns mayor is an epic count who is trying to make the businesses and restaurants suffer

Politics...Ole Miss is the most liberal school in the SEC, save Vanderbilt...we’ve run out of statues to move so maybe enrollment will start to creep back up...

I agree with this, undergrad's in non specific majors aren't really worth what they used to be. Mix that with the realization that kids can attend major university's exclusively online and it just becomes way extra. I would say that commercial real estate is going to lose their asses as the next years leases end as well. People realize their employees can work from home exclusively and per diem for home office materials are significantly less than a 25k a month office space downtown. I personally wouldn't want to pay for my Kid to go to a bigger state school, much less a private school online for them to get a business degree. Sucks for the kids as they will never know what they missed with the real college experience but its just one of those things. I could be wrong, just a guess.

While COVID has certainly played a part a lot of this can be blamed on the trend of "business" model administration.
Basically you improve the facilities to attract on campus students to generate more income. You then spend that additional income mostly on improving the facilities to attract more students to generate more income. We can all see what that leads too... eventually you realize you've spent way more on facilities then the available market (number of students) will support. Oh uh.
A business should not be run like a school, a school should not be run like a business. A lot of Universities have expanded more than they can handle in the last decade or so. Well those chickens finally came home to roost.
