Why is Gus even being mentioned as possibly getting fired?

Auburn played
#1 LSU
#4 UGA
#6 Oregon
#10 Florida

And will play
#5 Alabama

Literally half of the top 10 with a freshman QB.

Beat Oregon, and lost to 1, 4, and 10 by a total of 21 points. Gus really has done a great job this year with what he has and that is not a troll

Think you meant Oregon here. But if I had to guess it would be based on multiple seasons, not just this one.

ETA hope he sticks around. They've given bama the most trouble of any SEC team over the course of his tenure.

He, Dabo, and Les are the only active coaches with 2+ plus wins against Saban

Because half of our fans have wanted him fired before he was hired. He was on hot seat in 2014 for no defense. We have a bunch of whiny fans to be honest. Don’t get me wrong, AU expects to win those games and he’s lost to many of them.

Good luck to LSU, you were patient with coach o and should bring home a title with a tough schedule as well,

Yep. I think what bugs the AU fans the most is the all-or-nothing nature of their seasons under him. Just guessing though.

But yeah, I think they ought to keep him, but are paying him a touch too much.

Auburn fans are dramatic, yet secretly love Gus.

Gus may be, just may be, the nail in Saban's coffin.

How long before them bragging rights died down?

I'm too tired to argue with you. Believe what you like.

Their more knowledgeable fans look at the roster and see what they are losing this year to the NFL or graduation, and know that next year is setting up as a rebuild.

The shrimp boat captain and the high school coach driving his bus take down the greatest coach in college football history.

That’s exactly how you would’ve written it up

I mean, everyone can see the toll (ride toll) this gig has taken on him physically. After this shite-storm of a season, capped off with a possible loss to Clearasil Jr. at the hands of Darth Gustov, could anyone blame him for saying, "frick it, I'm out...aight?"

The life cycle of Auburn coaches:

1) Hire an up and comer you're not too crazy about

Pat Dye was a Dawg and Bear Bryant acolyte
Terry Bowden was a fat guy with a last name
Tuberville was an unknown
Chizik wasn't even good at Iowa State
Malzahn was a nerd and retread

2) Have a season Auburn considers magical but everyone else is kinda ehhh

Dye's mountaintop
Bowden's undefeated '93 while on probation and tv ban
Tuberville's undefeated '04 but shut out of BCS
Chizik's '10 but Cam got paid
Malzahn's '13 absolute miracle season

3) Fade and get canned/forced out

Rinse and repeat

Nope. And no one would have anything but absolute respect for him after stepping away.

Our DL will take a step back losing #3 and #5...but everyone else is back and recruiting there has been strong. We will be equal or better everywhere else.

On the flip side to my previous comments, I can definitely see why they are tired of Gus. I change my mind once a week about whether or not he's good for that program long-term.

Because he loses 4-5 games every season which Auburn isn’t okay with.

They actually love Gus and think he's doing an adequate job but they want everyone here to think they have higher expectations.

Because he cost us half those games or put them out of reach with his dumb coaching. Plus his offense hasn't improved one bit since game 1. Steele and the DLine has won the games we've won. Not Gus.

The big reason.

In 7 years we are 6-15 against bamna, UGA, and LSU our 3 main rivals including 0 wins over any of them on the road. If you add in florida and TN who are historial rivals it gets to something like 6-18. Bowl record is 2-4.

Basically we can't beat our rivals under him. There is only so long that beating ark, ole miss, and so forth is fun. At some point you want to win some of the big games and Gus doesn't do that regularly.

Actually we are 6-14 against those three teams under Gustav. However, half of those wins came in his first four tries - he’s 3-13 since September 2014, including 0-9 on the road.

Unfortunately for us, 2 of those wins were decisive blowouts against #1 teams, right as he was in contract negotiations. And we had a lame duck AD and a blithering idiot President negotiating against the guy who made Chad Morris and Willie Taggart multimillionaires.
