According to the 247sports.com recruiting rankings, (I have recently learned that this is the only site that matters) LSU's recruiting class rankings over the past ten seasons are as follows:

2009 - #1
2010 - #9
2011 - #8
2012 - #13
2013 - #6
2014 - #2
2015 - #5
2016 - #2
2017 - #7
2018 - #15

As impressive as these rankings seem, LSU football has struggled to actually finish a season at that ranking in the AP poll. LSU's AP poll finishes are listed below.

2009 - #17
2010 - #8
2011 - #21-0...I mean #2
2012 - #12
2013 - #14
2014 - unranked
2015 - #17
2016 - #13
2017 - #18
2018 - #6

In all honesty, last season was the best season for LSU football since 2011. When will LSU begin to perform to its talent level? Is the problem coaching? Player development? The caliber of their competition?

Random Stat from the data -
LSU has had a top-10 recruiting class in 8 of the last 10 seasons, yet only finished in the Top-10 of the AP poll 3 times.

I know someone will immmediately bring up Arkansas, since this is an LSU thread. Let's try to avoid that and keep these the responses to the OP on topic.

Coaching and offensive philosophy. Pretty soon someone will come along to say it's because Miles let the recruiting dip and that LSU is in the midst of a rebuild.

We get our top prospects at positions that aren't as important as others.

Look at Louisiana's recent history of producing QB's vs. DB's. There's your answer.

Think it has something to do with spring practice coming along the same time as crawfish season and then fall practice opening around the same time as the shrimp season opening

It's that inbred Cajun mentality. You can't fix a flaw unless you admit it. They are their own worst enemy- not Alabama, the REC, or SEC Offices in Birmingham.

Good question. We’ve underperformed compared to how we’ve recruited. I think it’s a combination of things, hopefully changes soon though

offensive philosophy.

This is probably my personal opinion. The state of Louisiana produces Duel-threat QBs, and LSU continues to resist the change to the spread offense.

Well it mainly has to do with two problems.
1. Coaching
2. No competent quarterbacks

No development since Jimbo Fisher was their OC.

Miles was stuck in the 70s and wanted to attack everyone's strengths and make them bend their will. He was too predictable and could rarely develop a QB in his system.

Enter Coach O and Canada just wasn't a fit so 2017 is a waste. Then, we get Ensminger and my personal opinion is that he didn't trust his playmakers last season. I think he opens it up more this season, but we will see what happens.

Some of it was coaching. Some of it was attrition. Some of it was that the class rankings were top heavy with skill players and MIles' Neanderthal offense wasn't suited for those guys.
Part of it is playing in the toughest division in CFB. LSU is the only West team to not have a losing conference record (other than Bama)since expansion. It's been in the top 20 every year but once. It has 19 consecutive years of 8 wins or more.
Still, we have underachieved. That's why a change was made in 2016.
That's all about to change. Barring injuries this year's team is loaded.

When you decide to ridicule fans for throwing that score in your face (and you should). Please exclude me from it.

Similar situation for UF. You're completely fricked without QB development.

2010: #1
2011: #11 (Muschamp year 1)
2012: #3
2013: #3
2014: #9
2015: #21 (Mac year 1)
2016: #12
2017: #11
2018: #14 (Mullen year 1)

I figured he was a clemson tiger fan.

No sane LSU fan would use a score from a different tiger team to troll.
