That's sad. The coaching turnover in this league because of everyone chasing Saban has been incredible.

I almost forgot about Les. Thinking more of the retirement of UM.

Because he happened to be employed at the time that Cam Newton provided the most of the offense side of the Natty win.

So having ONE player being the difference in winning a NC is so unique ?

Having one coach ride that one player success for this many years is unusual.

Legitimate point. Football today gets a little trigger happy firing coaches, imo. I just find it strange that Gus, outside of Saban, is the longest tenured coach, and he actually has not been at Auburn that terribly long.

He did well with Nick Marshall in 2013 and Stidham in 2017. And Dabo has done well with Watson and now Lawrence. shite works that way.

And Tajh Boyd... And Kyle Parker, to an extent.

Clemson’s QB development the last 15 years is way above Auburn’s.

He didn’t win NC with the other two. Every year you can point to one player being the reason for a NC or a NC run.

Aubies are pretty butthurt over watching their rivals on stage while they sit in the audience.

Kind of like you’ve watched every single rival and neighboring school win the NC since you did almost 4 decades ago? fig.

I don't think they consider him a great coach at all, considering they've been trying to fire him for months... if they hadn't blundered the contract and payout negotiations he wouldn't even be their coach right now.

I've got a lot of AU fans in the family, and none of them support him... they all wanted him fired during the season. Doubt he's even there after next season.

I doubt anyone considers Gus a great coach, but I’d say he is good. He’s one of the few current coaches who has a natty appearance and has beaten Saban multiple times. Auburn could definitely do better, but they could also do a hell of a lot worse. Imo it’s not worth them paying his massive buyout unless they have a sure thing lined up.

What exactly has kirby done that Gus hasn't besides take 2 years to lose a NC game instead of 1?

He is a lot like Richt. Using his success against AU to keep his job. Could you imagine where he would stand if he was 1-3 against AU ? It saved him in 2016 and if it wasn't for the SECCG, the fans would have been all over him.

How long did y'all give Richt? 15 years, wasn't it?

Yes. But he also was averaging 10 wins a year, so...I am a little hazy on your thought process. but yes. 15 years.

You do realize you, and most other Auburn fans post in the Georgia threads, right? And I am not putting Auburn down, or Gus for that matter. If I were continually trolling it would be one thing.

Typically I only react to trolling done by Auburn fans, but apparently in your world Georgia fans should just sit back and watch as you guys use us a punching bags.

3+ losses a year Kirby? Wait and see what happens to Kirby once Mullen gets his program rolling.

There is a difference in losing three games during the regular season, and losing them in the SECCG and playoffs, though, don't you think?

No doubt things will get tougher with Florida and Tennessee getting stronger. But that will make the SEC stronger. The east is finally getting stronger, and it's about time.

That's silly. In three years he has won a SEC Championship and played for a national Championship.

If he won a SECC and played for a National Championship while doing that he would stand in the exact same spot he does now.

His first year as a head coach? You think we were going to fire him after his first year?

Wow.

Made it to the playoffs.
Lost fewer games?
Won more games.
Won the Rose Bowl.
Has continued winning after playing for the National Championship.
