Hey I'm Jon Gruden. Here's my super bowl ring. You ever watch Monday night football? At Tennessee we got a heck of a fight song man. I tell you that Rocky Top is a great song.

Boom. Done deal.

Uh because he's never done it before.

Pitch sells itself.

Especially to QBs. Gruden has worked with every top nfl prospect on a reality TV show the last few years.

I'm one of a few Bama fans that want TN to be competitive again. Gruden isn't the answer imo.

Avery Johnson came from TV and recruits well at Bama. Probably will be a Similar thing with Gruden

I agree 100% with your assessment. Gruden would have no problem recruiting top ten classes at Tennessee in my strong opinion.

Is anybody else catching hell trying to type "Gruden" and your auto correct keeps on changing it to Heiden.... wtf?

Ok I can see that point but had Avery been out of coaching for 15 yrs and football is much more rigorous that basketball and you don't get run out of town that quickly at a football school if your average at basketball

Perfect example.

Coaches with great personalities and Championship pedigree are naturally going to recruit well.

Simple. He isn't a proven college coach. Huge gamble. But may be a gamble that's worth it.

I mean, it's fricking baffling that people think recruiting would be an issue for him.

Or that he wouldn't have a staff that has recruited the southeast for years and knows the terrain.

Butch Jones brought in top 10 classes for fricks sake, with ZERO experience recruiting in the southeast, BUTCH JONES FOR frick'S SAKE.

Lyle Allen fricking Jones had top 10 recruiting class. Lyle. Jones.

Well, 17 and 18 year olds today don't know him as a coach.

Lol exactly. Of all the things people bring up, this is the dumbest one. He would recruit (and hire coaches who recruit) lights out from day 1.

It’s not just recruiting. It’s managing the program and everything that comes with it. There’s a big difference and things have changed a ton since 1992 when he was a college coach.

Sitting down and watching tape is a whole lot different coaching. He won a SB 15 years ago. The dude has no clue how to find a QB . He even said he'd draft Nathan Peterman as the first QB. He's all hype. Which may land him classes like BJ then he'll have to coach. Lol at his coaching ability. PLEASE PLEASE HIRE HIM AT UT. This would be a complete dumpster of a hire like Weis. Better yet I remember a coach who made the SB and ended up at Nebraska. Bill Callahan.

Do you really assume that's all there is to it? Because I don't. How do you even know which guys you want to recruit?

Maybe if you repeat it over and over, it'll sound more intelligent.

Kids can use this thing called the THE INTERNET (has your father in law heard of it) if they want to learn about Gruden as a coach, there are HUNDREDS of Mic'd up moments on YouTube, thousands even. He's in NFL Films archives, he's in commercials, HE'S frickING EVERYWHERE.

And just in case the kid doesn't want to look him up, or own a fricking television, he's got big arse Super Bowl Ring that he'll let the kid try on and say,

"Pretty awesome huh, well We're going to take you the next level in Knoxville, and someday, one of these will have your name on it"

people dont understand that there is talent to recruiting. Just cause this guy does well on tv does not mean he is going to be a good recruiter. The qualifications are not the same.

Gruden has never coached a college football team, which means hes never recruited before. He could end up being a good recruiter or could not but to say you KNOW he will be a good is clueless.

Gruden is a HUGE name but is a risk hire, IMO. I really think Mullen would be a good choice. He would bring stability to that program which is what they need right now.
