Why didn't UT get placed in Nashville?

I thought they typically "reward" higher seeds with letting them play closer to home.
You damn well know UNC or Duke will always get to play in Greensboro or Charlotte.

UT forgot to send in their payment.
Texas Tech didn't

They don't really do that anymore. The seeding is all over the place. No logic to it.

Because they aren't UNC or Duke

They were 10th overall on the seed line. Cincy and Xavier were above them and got Nashville. UVA and UNC above them got Charlotte. Purdue and Michigan State above them got Detroit. Kansas above them got Wichita. Nova and Duke above them got Pittsburgh.
When placing Tennessee the following sites were left
1 spot in Wichita
2 spots in Dallas
2 spots in San Diego
2 spots in Boise
That is how the top 16 seeds (all 1-4 seeds) are placed. Location isn’t taken in to consideration at all for 5-16 seeds.

That may be the most concise and informative answer I've ever received here on this board.
Thanks!

Well explained. This is why every 4/5 got shipped west. Duke didn't go to Charlotte either, but got easy matchups. Tennessee should have taken care of business, whether in Dallas or in Nashville. Michigan is in Wichita right now.

There are a few teams in the NCAA which get preferential treatment. In football and basketball there are 2 tiers.
Football...Tier 1: bama, Ohio State, Michigan, USC, Oklahoma, Texas, etc...Tier 2 most of the SEC, Va Tech, Clemson, FSU, etc...
Basketball...Tier 1: Duke, UK, Kansas, UNC, UCLA, etc...Tier 2 UofL (pre death penalty), Syracuse, Ohio State, etc...
Tier 1 gets all the benefits, in the absence of Tier 1 teams Tier 2 assumes the benefits.

Because Vanderbilt was already there.

UT belongs in Charlotte.

The Vols would’ve been moved to the 2 line had they beaten UK in the finals and would’ve gotten Nashville and Cincy would’ve been sent to Dallas. We can blame no one but ourselves.
