They were in the playoff, same thing with Wisconsin. There’s no point in the title game anymore.

Because if they didn't show up they would still get the L?

if it's about "best team" then that doesn't matter. could you really put alabama in above them if auburn sat at home on the same weekend?

Yes. If you refuse to play a game.

Why did Bama play any games at all after FSU? They could have gone undefeated.

To answer the question, because conference championships are still championships and everyone wants that conference championship banner/ring/trophy.

Seems like the game name/title is pretty self explanatory to me.

SEC Championship Game.

But hell, I would have been happy with Alabama going. We went the last 3 years and didn't choke.

So it's better to lose your division and sit at home because you didn't earn the chance to play for a conference title.. than it is to win your division and not show up to play?

This is silly. Auburn had 2 loses. They would have shifted criteria and used the lack of a conference title against us. The beauty/criminality of the current system is it allows for them to change it depending on what is best at the time. bama deserved to get in, but IMO there is zero credibility to any system that doesn't have clearly defined parameters. 8 teams (5 conference champions) is the only solution, but I don't really like that either so we will keep it this way.

You can't support that with a decent argument.. sorry

If the criteria is based on the eyeball test/best team then it's irrelevant if they show up or not.

Auburn and Wisconsin both lost a shot because of the title game.

It's time to cancel all non-conference games and play a true round-robin.

I agree with you. They should probably have a set of rules. But they don't so all the LSU fans bitching should just shut the frick up until there are a set of rules. They set a precedent last season that Alabama benefited from this season. They set a precedent by letting Nebraska and Oklahoma in the BCS without a conference championship. They set a rematch precedent with Florida and FSU in '96.
This is all just jealousy and bitterness after 1/9/12 and all of Alabama's success

If a team refuses to play in a game they should not be rewarded. Not that hard to understand. And nice troll at the end.

Why? They didn't lose on the field and they were doing the exact same thing Bama was doing last week.. watching football on the couch. Except they were doing it by choice.

you gonna have to do better than that

I can't imagine that the SEC rules would allow a team to decline playing in the conference championship game.

Wisconsin and Auburn didn't miss the CFP because the played in their conference championship game. They were left out because they lost. 100% confident Wisconsin would be in over Bama if they had beat Ohio State. Auburn I'm less confident on even if they won because of 2 regular season losses.

We had too. I guess Gus needs to protest for rules that allow you to by pass the championship game is you want.
