Why did aggy pay 75 mil for Jimbo?

How did he demand that coming off a 6-6 season? I know hes a top 10 coach in college football having a natty, his win %, and experience, but why did they pay him that? What was Sumlins contract?

Not right now.
Just a personal observation, he is not nearly as motivated or has the fire that he did earlier in his career at FSU.
His teams are extremely undisciplined and has traditionally had poor OL play, which is not a recipe for winning the SEC. Can he turn it around? Maybe but his 2nd year has been pretty uninspiring. A&M lacks talent significantly in a few key positions.
I don't think his coaching is elite, he lost a lot of games he should have won even going back to FSU. He is probably a 9-3 type coach at best at A&M. Unless he gets some elite QB play.

If your other option is Matt Rhule for 4.5 or 5 mil a year and you have the money? Yea I'm gonna overspend a little for a guy that has shown he can do it.
Seems like a premium worth paying to me.
(I'm only speaking from A&M's perspective. I'm not convinced Jimbo is going to get them much more than solid but not great seasons)

I am not sure he was all that much then. Clemson building but not there yet. It was FSU and nobody else in the ACC.
Even with that going for him, other than the Jameis years Fisher only had one season with less than three losses and he lost to unranked teams nine times over 8 seasons.
He strikes me as a good but not spectacular 9-3 coach that caught lightning in a bottle once.

J/k. The market price is what it is. Jimbo is one of a very few active coaches with a NC, and a CFP appearance. He’s going to command a premium if you want him. A&M bit the bullet. Time will tell if it was worth it.
