Why can’t Georgia build a championship program or dynasty?

It’s a talent loaded state, with the 2nd highest population of any SEC state (3rd now with Texas but I’m excluding them because they weren’t SEC historically).

Florida has done it. Tennessee has done it. Alabama has done it. Louisiana has done it. Why can’t Georgia? Outside of one season in 1980 led by one of the best players in football history, they have been pretty meh and can’t get over the hump.

It’s mind baffling. Almost as baffling as a program with the money and talent resources of A&M not being able to out perform MSU in any big 3 sport

I think with our defense and the changes Kirby is making on offense we'll win one soon. If Kirby can't win it within the next three seasons then he probably can't get it done.

FTR id like to see Georgia win one. I think competitiveness is good for the conference. Alabama winning it every year gets old, I enjoyed this year being LSUs year.

I personally don't understand it. The top talent in Georgia wants to be UGA Bulldogs and they have the $$ and resources. Just can not ever seem to pull it all together. And now Clemson which is 2 hours from Athens can. Has got to be very frustrating.

I hate to defend UGA, but they were a Tua pass away from winning one a couple of years ago. And probably a pass away from winning one in 2012.
Kirby has put them in a position to win every year but his first.

Cuz Jim Donnan then Mark Richt. Kirby needs to produce in the next 3 years or add him to the list.

Alabama gets in the way of their best teams.

The two best teams Georgia has fielded since then were 2012 and 2017. Alabama ended both championship runs while winning their own, both in close games determined in the final minutes.

You guys are on the brink no doubt. He does need to accept change.......and get a quality QB.

Florida has done it.

Florida did it in the 90s with their best coach in school history whose main competition in the east was a 1 game showdown with UT while we had goff and donnan. They did it again when they had one of the best coaches in CFB the last 15 years in meyer

Tennessee has done it

In the 90s they won 2 SEC titles and 1 national title. That's not a dynasty. If you're referring to the old days with neyland he (like spurrier) had 1 primary foe in bryant that he won some battles against

Why can’t Georgia?

becuase unlike the 2 examplesl mentioned above, our primary guys are the ones having to beat saban/meyer etc and I have no shame (and am not an idiot...)in admitting our guys aren't as good as those. Plop 02-07 UGA or the 2017-2018 teams in the 80s or 90s and who knows how many titles they have? I think it's 100% accurate to say that if nick saban didn't exist we'd have at LEAST 1 more title by now and potentially more, when you look at 03/12/17.

As for "dynasty"...bama is the only dynasty the country has seen since the 90s. IT's not like everyone is collecting dynasties but us.

I get hammering Georgia with the 1980 thing because, well, they deserve it for being so f'ing obnoxious. However, I really hate the whole they haven't won one since XX for any program.

Doing it ain't easy and a load of things have to fall in place to put a team over the top. Think 2007 LSU and all that had to happen for that team to win it.

It also puts into perspective what an amazing run Alabama and Clemson have been on in the last decade or so.
