Hypothetically, if Arkansas could cherry pick any in-state kids they wanted and never lost Arkansas kids to their neighbors, you could probably field a pretty competitive football team made up of nothing but Arkansas kids. But the state doesn't have enough talent to feed more than 1 perennial top 15-25ish team. If you lose even a few of your in state targets to Bama/A&M/LSU, etc, you have no choice but to hope for the best in other states to fill the void.

Texas has enough talent to field 2 elite level college football teams and 3-4 top 15-25ish teams. Usually that means 2 of A&M/OU/UTex are top 10 teams with almost all Texas talent, while the one left out is a notch down. Then you've got Baylor/TCU/TT/OSU also feeding almost exclusively off of Texas talent, and while not considered mainstays in the top 10, they've all had 10+ win seasons in the last 5-6 years.

quote:

The point is, we get a lot of recruits from both Arkansas and Texas, and the majority of them are in the 3-4* range. So you wouldn't expect that there would be that many more Arkansas recruits than Texas recruits turning into good players.

Either Texas recruits are being overrated or Arkansas recruits are underrated, or maybe a little of both.

A lot of truth in both of these posts. I do believe that a lot of Arkansas recruits tend to be underrated, more so than Texas recruits being overrated.

You can't say you don't know what Cam would have done in year two at Auburn after he wins ROTY and sets records in the nfl. Cam is way better than AJ. It's not even close.

ill take the results AJ has given so far at Alabama over what cam could do. jmo

cam doesn't fit well in drop back system or play action system. look what nfl teams did to him this year, his 2nd year.

The great thing about your scenario is we will never know so its kind of illogical to use that formula.

Of course it is because it doesn't prove your point You're a damn fool if you believe otherwise. Bama's teams have been stacked with players around AJ. You can't say the same thing for AU when Cam was there.

You can check my above post but this isn't the NFL I could give 2 shites less about what they do in the NFL.
Hey buddy, you are the one that stated AJ McCarron was light years above Cam Newton and Tim Tebow when it comes to passing ability.

Even if you were strictly talking college football, and hopefully so with the success Cam Newton has had in the NFL thus far, that statement would be imperatively false.

AJ McCarron: 175.3 rating, 2,933 yards, 30 touchdowns
Cam Newton: 182.0 rating, 2,854 yards, 30 touchdowns
Tim Tebow: 172.5 rating, 3,286 yards, 32 touchdowns

Listed above are the best yearly passing totals that each have gathered.

Quantity has a quality all its own.

Do you know how many 4 star recruits Arkansas produced in 2012 and 2013?

Arkansas High School Football produced:

Two 4-Star recruits in 2012

Two 4-Star recruits in 2013.

Do you know how many 4-star recruits Texas High School Football produced in 2012 and 2013?

Lone Star High School Football produced:

Four 5-Star and Thirty-Four 4-Star recruits in 2012

Two 5-star and Forty-One 4-Star recruits in 2013.

That is why Texas recruits are so coveted!

wow AJ had more yards than Cam that's suprising. still doesn't change my opinion that I would take AJ Over both of them. not to mention cam and tebow played in those run and gun offenses...and probably had 50 to 100 more attempts than AJ...I don't feel like looking up the totals but I will if you like

I do not even know why I continue to argue with you. Your knowledge of football is as deep as the dried up pond in my back yard.

It may be different for other teams, but lately it seems like Arkansas' in-state talent has been head and shoulders above the Texas recruits coming in.

Darren McFadden - Arkansas
Peyton Hillis - Arkansas
Joe Adams - Arkansas
Greg Childs - Arkansas
Jarius Wright - Arkansas
Jake Bequette - Arkansas
Jamaal Anderson - Arkansas
Marcus Harrison - Arkansas
Jerry Franklin - Arkansas
Tyler Wilson - Arkansas
Shawn Andrews - Arkansas
Marcus Monk - Arkansas
Matt Jones - Arkansas
Jonathan Luigs - Arkansas
Cedric Cobbs - Arkansas

Knile Davis - Texas
Tony Ugoh - Texas
Chris Houston - Texas
Caleb Miller - Texas

I'm putting Texarkana players in a separate category:
Cobi Hamilton - Texas
Dennis Johnson - Arkansas
Ryan Mallett - (finished high school in Texas, but from Arkansas)

Is Texas high school overrated due to its publicity and reputation or is Arkansas in-state talent that underrated?

It is.

Johnny Manziel
RG3
Andrew Luck

Need I continue?

Calm down Bud Cam is just another average QB in the NFL...his legs get him out of a lot of the crap he gets into and is prone to throw interceptions. Ill take the guy who wins super bowls over the guy who breaks records

That must be why he was voted Pro-Bowl as a Rookie, and why his peers voted him onto the list of Top 100 Players in the NFL.

He has thrown his fair share of interceptions, but he is not exactly surrounded by the best cast.

Who is this guy that is winning Super Bowls?

He can't win in NFL. QB stats are loaded when playing from behind. Ask his coach for his opinion.

Yeah, let us go ahead and forget who drafted him. The 2-14 Carolina Panthers.

How dare him not win more games so early in his career. They have only improved every season with him at quarterback.
