Why 12 and not 8 or 16 on expansion?

I guess this year a projecting 12 team is t the best

I think the byes are a pretty big part of it to reward teams like Georgia and Michigan (much like the NFL).

8 or 16 means no byes

Yeah but only two teams deserve a bye this year

Because 1v8 and 1v16 are shite match ups, where 5v12 is more evenly matched.

8 would have made the most sense but they want more teams to feel special and get participation trophies. What it will probably mean is a whole lot of SEC teams in the playoffs.

Most years, top 12 all but eliminates teams with 3 regular season losses. I’ve never seen a 3 loss team in CFB that I thought could contend for a national championship. I think 12 is the perfect number.
