Who were the most explosive players in the SEC over the last decade?
So, for this exercise, we went by Bill Connelly's version of an explosive play which is a rush for 12+ yards or reception of 20+ yards.

This does NOT include completions of 20+ yards... only receptions.

We broke it down by explosive plays per game from 2009-2018.

Explosive plays per game since 2009
- rounded to nearest tenth
1. Todd Gurley (UGA): 3.1
2. Cam Newton (AUB): 3.1
3. Dexter McCluster (MISS): 2.8*
4. Mark Ingram (BAMA): 2.7
5. Leonard Fournette (LSU): 2.6
6. Johnny Manziel (A&M): 2.5
7. Nick Chubb (UGA): 2.5
8. Anthony Dixon (MSST): 2.4*
9. Scottie Phillips (MISS): 2.3*
10. Ke'Shawn Vaughn (VAN): 2.3*

*12 games or fewer

A few very interesting names on the list. Most notably for me is McCluster. Enjoyed watching that guy play.

Top-3 in FBS
Lamar Jackson (LOU): 3.5
Toby Gerhart (STAN): 3.5
Jonathan Taylor (WIS): 3.4

Fournette's explosive plays per game is similar to his average rush vs Alabama.

Jeff Demps and Chris Rainey could make things interesting with the ball in their hands. Percy Harvin, when healthy, was a matchup nightmare at times. Brandon James was a hell of KR/PR.

I guess i dont think of explosive the same way he does. While a 20+ yard play is definitely an explosive play, i would consider someone like harvin much more of an explosive player than someone like ingram who carried the ball 30 times a game. Maybe thats just me.

first person that came to mind when seeing the title. The guy is the physical embodiment of "explosive player". People give tebow all the success for their 06 and 08 titles but Harvin was the real catalyst.

His game against Tenn in 09(?) is one of the most impressive individual performances I’ve ever seen

quote:

Dexter McCluster rushed for 282 yards and finished with 324 all-purpose yards, McCluster scored on runs of 15, 23, 32 and 71 yards in Ole Miss' first win against the Volunteers since 1983.

My vote. Dude was amazing. He was like Johnny Football, but big bodied and would drag linebacks to the end zone
