It’s either Georgia or Auburn.

as an overall unit, probably Georgia

Georgia
Auburn has the best DL, but the rest of the defense is above average.

I admit it's weird to see A&M in a defensive top 5

LSU is ranked higher than both... and has yet to play AR or Ole Miss

Georgia has the best defense. Only problem is that Bama and LSU's offenses are more elite imo. As good as UGA's defense is, I don't see it shutting down either of them in the SECC should UGA make it.

This UGA team would have been elite 10 years ago. Kirby has basically used the former Saban blueprint for building his team and how he gameplans. It's just not going to work anymore, something it took LSU years to figure out.
On a somewhat related note, I actually think Fromm is better suited for your offense than Fields would have been.

IDK about your first point. UGA is 2 years removed from playing for the natty and wasn't dominated in the game. Could argue the secondary let them down in that game more than the offense. The issue is that UGA isn't likely to get another Chubb and Michel that stay for their senior year, so they'd have a better shot retooling the offense. Kirby is similar to Orgeron in that they're both defensive minds that are elite recruiters and will need the right OC to make a run. Orgeron has found his OC and Kirby is still looking.
I agree with your second point though. Fromm is more suited for UGA's offense than Fields is, just like Fields is more suited for OSU's offense.

According to SP+,
#4 Georgia
#8 Alabama
#9 Auburn
#14 Missouri
#16 Florida
#18 LSU
According to FPI:
#3 Auburn
#6 Alabama
#7 Georgia
#14 Missouri
#18 Florida
#24 LSU
Looks like Alabama, Auburn, and Georgia are the three best... and its pretty close between the three.
