I'll probably keep it simple so as to not stoke LSU's irrational hatred of UF's relationship with Tom and stick to these:

This is going to be a yearly thing now Florida riling LSU nation up with something Petty related every year. We need to start doing our own tribute when Florida comes to Baton Rouge.

Just... the fact that you had to say this. Coupled with the fact that it's absolutely true.

UFs relationship with Tom Petty? I remember reading an article a few years ago that T Petty didn’t like UF. Apparently he played at some frat parties early in his career and the frat boys treated him really bad. The article was published several yards ago but someone might be able to locate it if they want. If I were UF it might be a good idea to check out the true relationship before they started having tributes to a guy who didn’t like them at all and publicly stated as much

Their fanbase is proud that their band disrupted a tribute during a game the week he died. It's almost to bizarre to describe as bizarre

And they're still fricking assblasted over it. I realize that dismissing the tribute and dismissing Petty's relationship with the school... and dismissing Petty in general... started out as LSU fans' way of trolling the Florida fans who thought the interruption was shitty and low class but by this point I think they're more triggered than the UF fans ever were. All you have to do at this point is change your favorite team to Florida and say the dude's name in a post.

It's fricking unreal.

He named his music publishing company GoneGatorMusic. Sure sounds like he disliked UF...

I'm just trying to figure out what there was to forgive or forget on LSU fans' part. Florida were the 'aggrieved' party. At this point, I doubt they really care other than bringing it up to trigger the frick out of LSU fans.

The part that utterly blows my mind is that it actually works.

You may have read a message board post saying that, but it certainly wasn't reported in the media.

When asked in an interview about who would win the Superbowl, Tom Petty said he didn't follow the NFL, but was a fan of the Florida Gators at the college level.

And then his daughter said this

quote:

"It is so incredible for everyone in the family that UF is honoring our dad in his hometown this way," said Adria Petty, Tom Petty's daughter. "He loved the Gators and he loved Gainesville, he always talked jokingly about a doctorate from UF and he would have been totally blown away by all this."

And if some douchebag turns around and starts flexing at you, just hit him in the head with the empty Jack bottle you smuggled in.
