LSU played nobody, Iowa played a gauntlet in the Big Ten Auburn was also the defending National Champion and went undefeated, therefore they never relinquished their belt. Repeat National Champions

I’ve seen some dumb arguments on this site, and this is definitely one of them.

False, Iowa was the legitimate National Champion in 1958. Auburn has a claim to it too.

Auburn played 1 less game and had a tie vs Georgia tech, that would be a false claim

Auburn claims 1957. Auburn won the AP, Ohio St won the coaches. I counted it as legit.

Auburn’s 1957 was not legit. It didn’t even play in a bowl game, because it was on probation for cheating. Ohio State was the true champ that season.

Arkansas' 1964 football team was recognized contemporaneously as the national champion by the Football Writers Association of America, Helms Athletic Foundation and Poling System, and retroactively by the College Football Researchers Association, Billingsley Report, National Championship Foundation, and Sagarin Ratings.[25] The NCAA does not name an official Division I football champion.

It’s pretty dumb to say Alabama won in ‘64 after losing its bowl game. I have to agree that Arkansas earned that one.

How does it suit Alabama better?

If I was going to bend the rules to suit Alabama better, I would have made it after 1941.

If I changed it to make the Ole Miss claims legit rather than the bogus claims they currently are, that would benefit Alabama because then Alabama could claim even more bogus titles.

So my conclusion is - you're just upset because the rules don't suit Ole Miss.

None of them were considered legit. The FWAA is the closest one to being acceptable, but people just didn't really claim them or pay attention to them.

As I said before, I'm not trying to fix history, because you can't. In order to do the things you are doing, you have to ignore the fact these teams were awarded the national championships, celebrated the national championships and were told the game they were played after was an exhibition game that didn't matter.

You can't apply the modern way of doing things to the past.

Besides, Alabama lost that game because the refs didn't award Namath the TD. You can see the play in this video.

4. Alabama - 18 claims, 1941 is bogus. 6% bogus claims.

You DO NOT have 17 national championships.

Statistics Texas Alabama
First Downs 15 18
Rushes–yards 51–212 26–49
Passing yards 101 298
Passes (C–A–I) 4–17–1 20–44–2
Total Offense 68–313 70–347
Punts–average 9–36.8 5–3.4
Fumbles–lost 2–1 3–1
Turnovers 2 3
Penalties–yards 3–25 4–46

Sure looks like Bama didn't care. You lost to a team Arkansas had already defeated.

I counted again, 17 is the correct number.

But please go ahead and point a year you have a problem with, so we can reduce Tennessee down to 1 title in their entire history with the same standards.

People.

How old are you? I mean only 1 of the things listed even existed at the time, and that was the FWAA.

But the FWAA did their own thing, it wasn't like the Coaches and AP which were published weekly in newspapers across the country in the sports pages.

That's how you got the rankings. You waited for the paper, and then you got the Coaches and AP rankings.

Hell, you didn't even have 6 back when you claimed them.

You have 11 legit NCs.

1983 you claimed 6...you only had 4.

You have 7 legit since then.

4+7=11

Let's say you actually had 6 in 1983.

6+7=13

Where did the extra 5 come from?
