With Mizzou, aTm, Vandy, and Florida I'm sure having UGAs back I'd imagine it shouldn't be too difficult.

The only thing that might delay it is that the AAU uses metrics on a 3-5 year rolling total. So it will take at least that long for your averages to reach that level.

This thread is a perfect example of a red herring.

The idea that any SEC school has inferior academics is a fallacy.

In general, OM and MSU "numbers" in these rankings are artifically deflated by the Ayers Case -- which forces us to keep admission standards equivalent to the HBCU in MS. Essentially, a ton of under/non qualified kids get into our schools, can't do the work, and drop out within a year.

So, we end up with the double-edged sword of low admission standards and a high dropout rate which destroys us in these rankings systems.

Good news is that the terms of Ayers' are beginning to crumble -- and in the near future, MSU and OM will be able to raise standards to a reasonable level(to where kids that get in have a much higher success rate) and our rankings should go up with this.

How the hell is Bama #5 in the SEC? Kids from Baton Rouge who can't get into LSU go to Bama. They have no admission requirements so I would like to know what makes them #5

Florida has been member of the AAU for a long time with Vandy and with A&M being added...the SEC got brighter. Isnt Mizzou an AAU?

This list is probably heavily based on the amount of grant money that pours into the university. Based on admission standards this list would be a lot different.

I don't think so -- MSU brings in pretty damn good research money on a per student/instructor basis...

I thought US News wasn't a legit source

It is not legit if you are talking value of a degree in the marketplace.

There rankings have a lot of BS in them that have no bearing on the education provided or the results in the marketplace.

Classroom size, acceptance rate, student retention, number of students that graduate within 6 years. Those are 4 of their primary ranking criteria that are poor indicators.

A school could have lots of small classes and a super high retention and graduation rate because its courses are a joke and easy to pass. A school could have a low acceptance rate because a shitload of dumbasses apply due to lower admission standards than the major instate alternative (like Bama vs AU).

Stuff like that makes their rankings pretty weak IMO.

Give me the one posted that compares cost of degree with how much the grads make. Bottom line shite that matters.

See my post...

Low acceptance rate due to tons of applicants that would not even bother to apply to a place like AU. Easier course work leading to higher rention and graduation, etc.

From the USNews link:

quote:

University of Georgia has a total undergraduate enrollment of 26,373, with a gender distribution of 42.3 percent male students and 57.7 percent female students.

#3 in academics, #2 in football, #1 in female.

Can't be #1 at everything.

Not their biggest supporter, that is for sure.

Bama currently has a good football team though.
