Which SEC road trip is well worth the long drive?

Are there any long trips that are worth the drive because the experience is amazing? I’m considering Fayetteville which is like 8 hours at least. Is it worth going all that way? Or would a trip to Auburn be better?

Auburn is better for a football trip.
Fayetteville is a better trip independently of football

So I’ve been told. Auburn costs way more and I bet lodging is way higher too. But the distance is the same roughly for us. Who’s got the better bar and food scene?

Auburn's food scene is improving, but probably Fayetteville for both.
Auburn still feels very small. But it's one of the quintessential "college town" experiences that are increasingly hard to come by as college towns blow up into larger cities.

Auburn is my favorite SEC roadtrip I think.
Even though we never win there.
It's all football on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
There is nothing nearby to distract anyone.
Only endless tailgating and shite talk.
I have been to MSU twice and it really exceeded my expecations. Tennessee is a fun trip too.
Never been to Arkansas, but I think I would gravitate towards the college towns that don't have anything else to offer.
As in, Nashville, Lexington, and Columbia are more than just the universities.

If Gainesville wasn’t so far I’d go there. I just can’t do that 10 plus hour drive. Maybe someday but not this season.

How’s Dickson St? Compare it to something. It seems legit and I just want to have a good time Friday and before/after the game. Are there plenty of hotels/airbnb available within walking distance or is it set up all bad?

I wouldn't go this season either.
Local alumni clubs are always chartering buses though, and that's usually a great time.

You'll have to ask the Arky folks for that
As for Dickson I don't think it's anything amazing, but it reminds me of a cleaner, less grungy stretch of Athens.

Dickson Street is next to the historical district of Fayetteville and you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a BNB there. Dickson itself has a nice collection of bars and restaurants to visit, you are likely to catch my drunken nephew (carrying on a proud family tradition) in one of them come game day.
I preferred back when there was a free range herd of Hippies there but they've all been tranqed and relocated to a Eureka Springs breeding program.
I am, however, the worst person to ask for advice on these things. I always thought Fayetteville was OK to visit but absolutely wonderful to live in. Do go see Crystal Bridges up in Bentonville while you are there.
As per SECRant tradition... be sure to visit Bottom's Up while you are in town. Sadly the elderly, and I do mean elderly, Vanessa has retired but there are still cockroaches scurrying across the stage while the strippers are trying to dance so it hasn't completely lost its magic.

Rooms are out of sight near Auburn on game weekend. Really sucks.

I figured it was that way. That’s how a lot of big SEC towns are

Going to Aggyland this year. Have to experience that half-billion-dollar stadium. I'm also craving some Texas brisket.

I have been to Auburn three times, and Fayetteville once, but I liked Auburn better. Had to tailgate on a golf course in Fayetteville if I am remembering correctly. It was a little while ago.
Auburn was great all three times that I went. Sky bar, Supper Club, and all day tailgating.

sky bar lol
A bartender there drew me a map on the back on a receipt to try and explain to me how to get home.
It was a terrible map.

The fact that it is called Aggyland tells me you should set your expectations low.

Sky bar
This is one of the main reasons I wanna take the trip to Auburn. Would it be silly to drive all that way without tickets just to see the town and try to scalp tickets? Like if we don’t get a pair, would it still be fun to be in town and watch the game at sky bar or somewhere?

Auburn and Fayetteville are both nice college towns. I like the Arkansas campus better tho
